Accent Elimination Advisor
Accent Elimination Advisor is the automatic online service that helps people reduce their accent
by giving them personal verbal and visual recommendations in terms of positions of their mouths,
tongues and lips
Structure of the service
The service is a set of lessons. Each lesson is dedicated to a specific pronunciation problem (say,
the difference between sounds /i/ as in SHEEP and /ɪ/ as in SHIP).
Structure of each lesson
Each lesson consists of two parts: Guide to pronunciation and Go to exercises.
The Guide to pronunciation part contains graphical and text instructions how to pronounce
sounds of the given lesson
The Go to exercises part is a set of word pairs containing the sounds of the given lesson (say, for
the vowels /i/ and /ɪ/ there’re following word pairs: SHEEP – SHIP, SEAT – SIT etc). For any word, any
user is able to:
1) listen to the native pronunciation of the given word,
2) record his/her own voice (by clicking the Record button),
3) listen to his/her own pronunciation (by clicking the Play button),
4) see the current positions of his/her tongue, lips, and jaw (drawn in blue) against the native
articulatory positions (drawn in dotted black),
5) listen to the personal advice created automatically by our service (by clicking the Advice
button). The advice is given in terms of positions of tongue, jaw, lips for the given user (say, “You have
to open your mouth wider”, “Round your lips”, “Raise your tongue”, etc).
