The document discusses the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) qualification from the Chartered Institute of Taxation. It notes that the ADIT is a challenging specialist qualification relevant for accountants looking to specialize in international taxation. It allows candidates to demonstrate their knowledge of international tax principles and issues. The ADIT consists of three exam papers that can be taken separately or together, providing flexibility. Studying for the ADIT can count towards CPD requirements if international taxation is relevant. ACCA members receive discounts on study materials from Tolley Tax Training for the ADIT.

Expert in international taxation?
How confident are you in giving guidance on another country’s tax
regime? How can you improve and demonstrate your expertise in
international taxation? Working in partnership with the Chartered
Institute of Taxation (CIOT), ACCA is delighted to provide members
with the opportunity to prove your expertise in international tax and
gain a specialist qualification from another respected professional
body.
The Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) is a
challenging and rigorous qualification which is particularly relevant to
qualified accountants with a tax background who are looking to
specialise further in international taxation. It will reward you, your
career and your employer.
Nikki Dimech FCCA is an auditor in Malta. He sat the
ADIT in 2005. ‘I knew I wanted to specialise in tax
and as a sole practitioner ADIT was perfect for me
because I could study at home. ADIT is unique – one
module is totally different from another and you have
the flexibility to choose the papers in the order that
suits you,’ he says. ‘I chose Paper I, Principles of International
Taxation as my first module because I regarded it as the most
difficult.
‘In my opinion, ACCA and ADIT are the perfect formula for an
excellent auditor. Most clients are interested in the amount of tax
they are going to pay as well as tax credits, exemptions and legal
schemes therefore they prefer to engage an auditor or accountant
who is also a specialist in taxation. ADIT has helped my firm grow
into a medium-sized firm mostly due to my tax expertise.’
To gain the Diploma, candidates need to be able to demonstrate
knowledge of the principles of international taxation, in-depth
knowledge of international tax issues for their primary jurisdiction,
and an awareness of basic tax issues, particularly in relation to
international tax, in at least one secondary jurisdiction.
Holders of the Diploma are entitled to use the designatory letters
'ADIT' after their name and, on payment of an annual fee, to affiliate
themselves to the CIOT as 'International Tax Affiliates of The
Chartered Institute of Taxation'
Registration and examinations
Candidates are encouraged to register with CIOT and start their
exam preparation at least six months or more in advance of the
examinations which are held annually in June.
The ADIT has three components:
Paper I - Principles of International Taxation
Paper II - Advanced International Taxation – Primary Jurisdiction
(detailed knowledge of a chosen option jurisdiction’s tax regime
regarding international tax matters)
Paper III - Principles of Corporate and International Taxation –
Secondary Jurisdiction (awareness of key features of the corporate
