Portugal is located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe and includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira. It has a long history dating back to Roman times and was a major global power during the Age of Discovery in the 15th-16th centuries when it explored the world and imported goods from Asia, Africa, and India. Portugal is divided into northern, central, and southern regions and has a moderate climate averaging 20 degrees Celsius.
