Waste
•   Member companies build biodigester system
    for waste water treatment in their units of
    swine production, or incentivate the
    integrated producer to do it.
•   They are aligned with the Clean
    Development Mechanism of the Kyoto
    Protocol.
•   Biodigester system generates eletric power,
    which is used by the producer or by the
    processor.
•   Biodigester system generates biogas which
    can be used in the industry rather than LPG;
•   Reduces Greenhouse Gas emissions;

• Companies control the GHG
  emissions in their industrial
  activities, following the GHG
  protocol;
• Marfrig/Seara and BRF are in the
  BM&Fbovespa Efficient Carbon
  Index.
The main initiatives to reduce
    emissions were:

•   Actions to decrease the
    consumption of eletric power;
•   Boilers for steam generation
    powered by biomass to replace
    fossil fuels;
•   Improvements in sewage
    treatment effluents and waste;
•   Better management of animal
    waste.
Water

• All industrial units have effluent
  treatment plants that ensures
  water reuse or its return to the
  environment under appropriate
  conditions.
• Laboratories ensure efficient
  operation.
Energy

• Companies use eletric power
  from the biodigester system.
• Encourage reforestation and use
  in their manufacturing operations
  only wood from planted forest or
  legally managed.
• Increased use of renewable
  energy sources.

Waste • Member companies build biodigester system for waste water treatment in their units of swine production, or incentivate the integrated producer to do it. • They are aligned with the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. • Biodigester system generates eletric power, which is used by the producer or by the processor. • Biodigester system generates biogas which can be used in the industry rather than LPG; • Reduces Greenhouse Gas emissions;
  • 22. Biodigesters Reduces CO2 eq. emission In two members, with the already installed capacity, the reduction potential is : 664 thousands tonnes of CO2 eq. / year.
  • 23. Greenhouse Gas • Companies control the GHG emissions in their industrial activities, following the GHG protocol; • Marfrig/Seara and BRF are in the BM&Fbovespa Efficient Carbon Index.
  • 24. The main initiatives to reduce emissions were: • Actions to decrease the consumption of eletric power; • Boilers for steam generation powered by biomass to replace fossil fuels; • Improvements in sewage treatment effluents and waste; • Better management of animal waste.
  • 25. Water • All industrial units have effluent treatment plants that ensures water reuse or its return to the environment under appropriate conditions. • Laboratories ensure efficient operation.
  • 26. Energy • Companies use eletric power from the biodigester system. • Encourage reforestation and use in their manufacturing operations only wood from planted forest or legally managed. • Increased use of renewable energy sources.
  • 27. Energy drop 1.9% in direct energy consumption was recorded in 2011 from the previous year, an indication of efficiency given that production increased 4.1% during the same period, for one member company.
  • 28. Recycling • Companies develop selective collection programs in their units. • Units develop reverse logistics actions. • Increased amounts of waste sent for recycling.
