1) People first settled along the Nile River valley in Egypt around 5000 BC, where they farmed the land and domesticated animals. 2) Between 4400-4000 BC, early Egyptians established permanent houses and farms along the Nile to survive in the hot climate by farming crops and animals like goats and sheep. They also began crafting pottery. 3) Hieroglyphics, the first written Egyptian alphabet, emerged around 3200 BC and was used for over 3500 years. The first stone pyramid, known as the Step Pyramid, was also built at this time for Pharaoh Djoser near Saqqara.
