Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. published a sustainability report outlining their efforts to reduce environmental impact. They work with local growers using sustainable practices for raw materials and source ingredients from within 40 miles. Sierra Nevada uses solar power, hydrogen fuel cells, and efficiency measures to reduce energy usage and has implemented a closed-loop water system that recycles and reuses water. Their packaging efforts include using recycled materials and returning used packaging.

A participatory evaluation with 80 residents found that yields increased significantly compared to the previous year across various crops. The village chair also reported that food security has greatly improved, with only 1% of residents now having no food compared to half of households previously.

Climate-smart agriculture aims to sustainably increase productivity and incomes, adapt and build resilience to climate change, and reduce and/or remove greenhouse gas emissions. However, constraints like a lack of knowledge and training, insecure land tenure, and short-term losses versus long-term benefits can inhibit smallholders from adopting climate-smart practices.The Water Imperative: New Standards in Corporate Water Leadership

Climate-smart agriculture aims to sustainably increase productivity and incomes, adapt and build resilience to climate change, and reduce and/or remove greenhouse gas emissions. It involves adopting various agricultural practices at the local, national, and global scales that improve food security through higher yields while addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation. - To encourage our barley farmers to incorporate more sustainable farming practices, the began a first of its kind program in 2009, called Farm with Your Brewer. The program has two goals: To partner with growers who share Sierra Nevada’s environmental stewardship philosophy and values. To partner with growers on production strategies that target lower protein barley. Lower protein content increases the amount of fermentable sugar available to the brewer which means a more efficient use of grain.
- In 2005, Sierra Nevada became the first brewing operation in the United States to install hydrogen fuel cells. In December 2008, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. completed what is now one of the largest privately owned solar installations in the country. Process Controls Heat recovery
- Sierra Nevada began testing it as irrigation water for our eight-acre hop field we hope to implement a full-scale reuse program that will recycle several million gallons of water annually

- Sierra Nevada trains drivers in both defensive and economical driving.
