A wearable electronic nose was developed using a flexible printed sensor array integrated with Zigbee wireless communication for healthcare applications. The sensing unit was fabricated using an inkjet printing technique with eight different sensor elements responding to a variety of odors. A prototype wearable e-nose in the form of a compact armband uses Zigbee to wirelessly monitor and classify odors released from the human body during different activities, as demonstrated in preliminary results using principal component analysis.
