James Herriot was a vet in Yorkshire, England in the 1940s. He treated a small dog named Tricki who had become seriously ill due to his mistress, Mrs. Pumphery, overfeeding him without providing enough exercise. When Tricki refused food, Mrs. Pumphery frantically called Herriot. Herriot treated Tricki without medicine or surgery by keeping him at the vet's surgery, providing only water and exercise with other dogs. Tricki recovered and transformed into a healthy, muscular dog. Mrs. Pumphery was grateful, believing it was a triumph of surgery.
