Why does a job interview fail
• I want to give you an story about what happens in the course of a job
interview , this story is controversial as well as superficial
• It is Controversial because it is my story and any one
can make a story to explain the truth and the most
successful story usually comes up with a theory
• It is superficial because it shows you a very high level
picture of what happened during one of my job
interview which made me to come up with a right
winning plan for the next one
Let me start form the day which I
screwed up with an interview
• It was almost clear that I did not demonstrate anything makes me special in the
interview session
• But I did not appreciate the fact which it was not a heart touching interview
Then what I did …
• I started to make reasons why I am the best ,because ,I did not want to accept the
failure
• It helped me to convince myself that the interview was not fair and the selected
nominate was not the right choice , never the less it did not make my life , my
feeling better
Let me start form the day which I

• Then I started to make assumptions and stories that the interview
process and criteria for selecting the person is not clear and …..
• Ishh…..
• I came up with the idea that I need to empower my self for future
interviews
Do we have a clear formula that
convinces every body about the
interview result
• No we do not have !
• Imagine you want to buy a House/Car/Shirt is there any formula that
every one refers to that to buy a house?
• Now replace the house and stuff with human being , it becomes more
complicated
• Interview is all about human interactions and passing messages
through different filters
Then what?
• Interview is a session which you want to sell your capabilities to
people to use them for the benefit of their company
• Having said the implications of human interactions ; there are
technics which helps us to be a better seller
• Just the golden rule is : don’t make wrong assumptions , you can not
elaborate engineering and formulating an interview to the way that
makes you the best choice
What is an interview
• Interview is about knowing the potentials NOT competence
• WHAT “POTENTIAL” MEANS?
• Proof of your resume ,in a simple language ,which shows that you could be considered as a person who can get
succeed in the new job but dose not mean that you have demonstrated any thing of success in the new job
• Interview is about understanding the motivation
• Interview is about understanding the personality fit for the job (e.g.
DISC toolset)
• And the last but not the least it is to understand the attitude and
integrity of the person
So you may fail if
• You try to convince people to appreciate the competency which is not
demonstrated instead of showing your potentials
• You try to show yourself very enthusiastic or so-so and arrogant
• If your personality does not fit the job , some times it is as this so
don’t try to be some one else in the interview
• If you start a wrong conversation , show a wrong attitude or body
language our appearance in the meeting
