Zoology is the study of animal life, including how animals share characteristics, are classified, and have systems for reproduction, metabolism, homeostasis, growth, development, heredity, sensory reception, circulation, respiration, digestion, excretion, and locomotion. Organisms can be either unicellular, like bacteria and protists composed of only one cell, or multicellular, like animals, plants, and fungi composed of more than one cell. Classification helps scientists study and understand the behaviors, lives and evolution of millions of life forms.
