The Value Adding Toolbox was developed with input from construction industry organizations to provide problem-solving tools that help designers relate their technical design solutions to stakeholder expectations of value. While designers were initially reluctant to adopt a new approach, organizational learning was needed to establish customer value satisfaction as important for design decision-making. The toolbox uses a website to disseminate common problem-solving methods to encourage collaboration within design chains. Its development involved gathering relevant tools from various fields and customizing the toolbox for different organizations through several iterative trials.
