Back it up or pack it up! Did you know that 60% of all small businesses that lose their data are out of business within 6 months? Don’t be one of them! Your New Year’s Resolution for your business should be to setup a backup solution, or evaluate the one you have. Come to TechComm this month to learn more about proper backup solutions.
On one side, they’re arguably the most important task of every
IT professional. Protecting your company’s most critical data
really means protecting your company itself, and therefore your
own livelihood. But on the other side, backups are so often
accomplished using technology that hasn’t evolved much past
the reel-to-reel days. In 2010, most IT organizations still find
themselves clinging desperately to ancient tape-based technologies;
technologies that indeed back up data, but do so slowly,
painfully, and sometimes with catastrophic failure.
Snapshots have been a key feature of primary storage infrastructures that IT professionals have relied on for years. But storage systems have traditionally been able to support only a limited number of active snapshots. And snapshots, being pointers and not actual data, are also susceptible to a primary storage system failure. As a result, most IT professionals use snapshots sparingly for protecting data. In this webinar Storage Switzerland and Nexenta show you how primary storage can be architected so that snapshots are able to meet almost all of the data protection requirements an organization has.
When it comes to backup and recovery, backup performance numbers rule the roost. It’s understandable really: far more data gets backed up than ever gets restored, and backup length is one of most difficult problems facing administrators today. But a reliance on backup numbers alone is dangerous. Recovery may not happen as frequently as daily backup but recovery is the entire reason for backup. Backing up because everyone does it isn’t good enough.

Webinar: 2018 Disaster Recovery Checklist - 5 Key Areas to ImproveStorage Switzerland
Is your organization ready for any disaster 2018 may throw at it? Organizations not only face new threats they also encounter decreased tolerance for downtime from users. The good news is there are plenty of new solutions that claim to improve an organization’s ability to recover from a disaster. But which one makes the most sense for your organization? And what about your processes? Recovery technology needs to partner with solid DR processes in order for an organization to see its way through the challenges ahead.
The number one cause of IT downtime is your employees, not an external threat. They inadvertently delete files, click on ransomware bait, hoard data and don’t test new software adequately. Your data backup and recovery solution probably does an okay job of protecting you from external threats but how is it against more common employee issues?
This paper addresses the major challenges that large organizations face in protecting their valuable data. Some of these challenges include recovery objectives, data explosion, cost and the nature of data. The paper explores multiple methods of data protection at different storage
levels. RAID disk arrays, snapshot technology, storage mirroring, and backup and archive strategies all are methods used by many large organizations to protect their data. The paper surveys several different enterprise-level backup and archive solutions in the market today and
evaluates each solution based on certain criteria. The evaluation criteria cover all business needs and help to tackle the key issues related to data protection. Finally, this paper provides insight on data protection mechanisms and proposes guidelines that help organizations to
choose the best backup and archive solutions.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

3. The Challenges Symantec NetBackup directly connected to a tape library Hardware issues with tapes/library hampered backups Backup windows not being met Certain data (e-mail) only protected every 3rd day Staggered backups so they would complete within the backup window One missed backup meant five days with data at risk File restore procedures sometimes took days Had to recall media from off-site, load/import media, and run the restore Administrative efforts exceeded staff resources Up to two hours per day spent managing backup issues Mortenson Construction & Quantum DXi Case Study 3 What specific challenges were you addressing?
4. The Challenges Mortenson Construction & Quantum DXi Case Study 4 Original Architecture M.A. Mortenson Company Backup Diagram Co-lo Mortenson HQ 1 GB Fiber NetBackup Tape Library Windows Servers
