According to father of AI John
McCarthy, it is “The science and
engineering of making intelligent
machines, especially intelligent
computer programs”.
Artificial Intelligence is a way
of making a computer, a
computer controlled robot or a
software to think intelligently, in
the similar manner the intelligent
human thinks.

•1956-1974 Golden years where successful programs and
natural language understanding is made.
•1974-1980 The first AI winter where AI is subject to critiques
and financial setbacks
•1980-1987 A form of AI program called “expert systems”
was adopted by corporations around the world. Japanese govt.
funded aggressively on AI with its 5th generation computer
project.
•1987-1993 AI rose and fell in the 80s in the classic pattern
of an economic bubble.
•1993-2001 It was successful by developing algorithms by AI
researchers.
