Women have come a long way in Hollywood films over the past 80 years. Early movies often portrayed women in stereotypical roles like wives, mothers, and love interests with little character development or agency. More recently, films have featured more diverse and complex female characters who drive their own stories and face challenging issues like discrimination, abuse, and societal expectations. There is still progress to be made in achieving gender equality both on and off screen, but the movie industry has shown improvements in representing women over the decades.
