8 TIPS FOR SENIORS TO LIVE A STRESS
FREE LIFE IN GOLDEN YEARS
Getting older can be a bit tough, but there are ways to
make the sail into the Golden Years a little smoother. Here
are a few suggestions.
Walking improves cardiovascular health. Seniors can work
out a plan with a family member or a part-time caregiver to
go for a walk daily to maintain physical fitness.
1. Walk
Loss of muscle strength is a major factor in disability as seniors age. Resistance
bands, from light to heavy are readily available. These bands can be used for
resistance leg and arm exercises with supervision from trained caregivers and
professional trainers who are aware of the challenges the seniors face. Again, make a
plan of a certain amount of band exercises every day and up the ante when the routine
becomes easy.
2. Practice Resistance Exercises.
Seniors can practice faith and gratitude, through meditation and prayer. Many local
communities also offer gatherings where seniors can socialize, make friends,
participate in voluntary activities and gain a great deal of joy.
3. Meditation.
Learning a musical instrument like a keyboard is a self-teaching dream. There are
dozens of programs that help seniors learn a musical instrument today without the
expense of lessons or a teacher. Music trains the brain well to respond in all kinds of
thinking situations.
4. Practice a Musical Instrument
Many seniors are adverse to using a computer. The concept seems a whole new world,
with new terminology and a chance to make mistakes and seem ignorant.
However, ypu or a caregiver can encourage them to embrace the new technology by
introducing them to social media and other activities which provide a great opportunity
to seniors keep in touch with family or friends.
5. Learn to use a computer.
6. Learn a New Skill.
Seniors can learn a new skill in their field of interest. There are even online classes that
especially designed for the elderly. If online classes are too isolating, try a class at a
neighboring college or tech school. It is fun, invigorating, and a chance to meet friends
as dynamic as your loved one is.
Professional Daily Money Manager. The more medical help we receive, the more
confusing the phone calls, appointments and bills. The person who can help organize
and smooth this out is called a Professional Daily Money Manager (PDMM). For a few
hours per month, a PDMM can help pay bills, file items and make complicated phone
calls. The PDMM can assist with insurance companies and medicare understanding.
7. Consider Hiring
Retiring from driving does not mean retiring from social life! Lyft and Uber are very
convenient options, and drivers are always available.. The seniors can also avail the help
and company of part-time or live-in caregivers to drive them to and from appointments
and commitments.
