8 Steps of Action Research of Team Teaching<br />By Lisa Treadway<br />July 26, 2010<br />,[object Object]
Analyzing data - TAKS data and district assessment data will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the team teaching on student achievement vs. the self-contained classroom.  There are advantages and disadvantages to team teaching that have been documented within the educational system.  I would like to analyze to evaluate if the advantages or disadvantages of team teaching have any effect on student achievement.

8 steps of action research of team teaching

  • 1.
  • 2. Analyzing data - TAKS data and district assessment data will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the team teaching on student achievement vs. the self-contained classroom. There are advantages and disadvantages to team teaching that have been documented within the educational system. I would like to analyze to evaluate if the advantages or disadvantages of team teaching have any effect on student achievement.
  • 3. Developing deeper understanding – I will use internet searches, interviews with stakeholders on campus, as well as interviews of stakeholders within the district to assess the concerns and viewpoints regarding team teaching.
  • 4. Engage in self-reflection – Questions to consider
  • 5. Do I have the needed resources to conduct the research effectively?
  • 6. Do I have the skills or resources to present my findings to the faculty and assist in the implementation of changes, if needed, to the current team teaching format?
  • 7. Will I be able to encourage teachers to participate in my interviews and surveys about team teaching?
  • 8. Exploring programmatic patterns – I plan to discuss my findings in-depth with my administration on campus. I would like to assist in the implementation of new team teaching procedures or refine current team teaching procedures if the research shows that team teaching needs to be addressed. What skills and resources will my administrative team feel is important and how will I procure these resources? How will I help the teachers “buy-in” to the team teaching program if they are not current involved if the research shows that team teaching is effective on student achievement?
  • 9. Determining direction – Double checking my approach to implementing my action research topic of team teaching
  • 10. I am clear on the questions that I am trying to research. I am attempting to resolve the question of the effectiveness of team teaching on my campus.
  • 11. I will need to require the assistance and resources from Mary Hagar and Jorge Quijano as well as other teachers on my campus.
  • 12. I will collaboratively work with Mary Hagar, Jorge Quijano, and the teachers on my campus to complete interviews, surveys, and data analysis to assist in my evaluation of the effectiveness of team teaching.
  • 13. The timeline is realistic and will be adjusted if needed.
  • 14. The plan to monitor the project will be effective based on TAKS data and district assessment.
  • 15. I will evaluate the plans effectiveness based on the information obtained from TAKS data. The plan will be deemed effective if the TAKS data shows that team teaching has a positive effective on team teaching.
  • 16. If the data shows improvement on certain team teachers and not on others, then I will need to evaluate what characteristics make an effective team and what needs to be done to assist in the creation of more effective teams in the future.
  • 17. Taking action for school improvement – I feel that after the research project is complete, a committee needs to be formed to evaluate the use of teams on our campus. I think the committee needs to evaluate team teaching and what are the guidelines and procedures that team teachers should follow.
  • 18. Sustain improvement – I would like to further research effective team teaching strategies and theories to assist in my professional development regarding the matter of team teaching.
