b) Acquisition
c) Maintenance
 Proper machineries management would
increase the profit of the contractor & also
ensure the project completed within time
given.

increase in cost & may also lead to project
delay.
 In order to produce accurate pricing of bill
of quantities, careful consideration of all plant
requirements must be undertaken with the
preparation of a plant schedule at the pre-
tender stage.
This include account plant types, plant
numbers & personnel needed.

5. Machineries Selection
 Type of machineries chosen depends on the
following factors:
a) Tasks / activities involved
b) The time element
c) Staff available
d) Conditions at the site (soils, surrounding
such as sloping sites etc)
e) Modes of access to a site
f) Location of the site (sites in congested
towns, site near housing area etc)

6. Machineries Acquisition
 The contractor can acquire plant / logistic
in the following ways:
a) Buy
b) Rent
c) Combination of both (buy & rent)

machineries can be listed as follows:
a) Machineries is available when required
b) Cost of idle time caused by inclement
weather, work being behind planned
programme or delay in deliveries of
materials will generally be less on owned
plant than hired plant.
c) Builder can apportion the machineries costs
to the various contracts using the
machineries by his/her own chosen method

8.  Among the advantages of hire / renting
machineries can be listed as follows:

short periods

replacements
