After a few days of thinking, James got
back in touch with Emma Marshall.
The rest of the family were out, so he
invited her over to the house to plan.
Heโ€™d spent some time coming up with how to
introduce Emma to her mother. Most scenarioโ€™s
did not go well. But Megan was due to age up
soon, and that could be perfect. They wouldnโ€™t
reveal who she was just yet, just get introductions
over with.
Emma found herself a
decent dress and arrived for
the party. She was nervous,
but James encouraged her.
Teresa assumed James had finally made a friend of his own, and didnโ€™t think anything
of the fact that this Emma was as shy as her step-son. She seemed nice enough.
Emma managed a whole conversation with
her a little later. It was about nothing in
particular, and Teresa had no idea how
momentous it was. But to Emma it meant
the world.
But the evening was all about the birthday girl, so their conversation was cut short
when the moment came for Megan to blow out the candles and become a teen.
Megan was more than ready for this. Once she was a
teen her parents would take her more seriously,
Allain would stop being a babysitter and become an
equal, and she could start having fun.
After the party, in her bare bedroom, Megan started
plotting. She would stay in school because
qualifications opened doors, but she couldnโ€™t wait
to find out what Allain was doing since he dropped
out. Maybe she could now be a part of it.
Bernice had been with Gracie
for a week or so before her
girlfriend dumped her. Word
had got back to her about
Bernice sleeping around, and
she wasnโ€™t happy. She was
looking for love, not just a good
time. Bernice tried to explain,
but was unable to defend
herself.
There were a few men out there
who maybe hadnโ€™t got the
message that she was committed
to one person nowadays.
 A few phone calls later, and
Bernice knew which one thought
they were an item and had got
the word to Gracie to stay away.
It wasnโ€™t pleasant, but she got through it. She
made it clear as gently as she could that she
and Ian were not exclusive, and that him telling
people to stay away from his lady was not
acceptable. He was angry, but she had expected
that. In some way, she felt it was penance.
Bernice managed to get
Gracie to come over. She told
her everything, and asked for
a second chance.

Gracie replied sheโ€™ll have to
think about it. She was
touched by the lengths
Bernice has gone to make
things right, but she had to
look after herself.
