Ariette had been taught from
an early age how to make
money from stocks and shares.

For years she’d purposefully
made only enough to cover
bills and basics, Harry would
have just drunk or gambled
anything extra.

But now she was working hard
to make as much profit as
possible, and her old
accountant just wasn’t up to it.
She kept her on for as long
as she could for old times
sake, plus the fact that this
lady was nearing
retirement and could use
the steady income.

But eventually she
misplaced one zero too
many and lost Ariette too
much money for her to
ignore.
Ariette had had enough. She told her
to go on holiday, and not bother
coming back. She would have to find
someone else.
Annette was thinking about her
recent visit to the Baileys. James had
been so friendly, but Megan hadn’t
bothered to call her back yet.
She decided to take the initiative
again, and invite everyone to hers
and give them plenty of notice.
Megan turned up with the
mysterious Emma Marshall in
tow, who Annette greeted
graciously despite not having
invited her.
She seemed nice enough,
quiet where Megan was loud,
careful where Megan was
reckless.
Conversation wasn’t going
well. Megan wouldn’t
volunteer anything about
her new job, despite it
taking up pretty much all her
spare time. She was tight-
lipped about her boyfriend
Allain as well.

It was with a sense of real
relief that Annette went to
answer the doorbell.
It was Malika, and she
had bought a friend
along too.

Annette spent the
evening watching
Megan wind the two
police cadets up while
Emma stayed virtually
silent nursing her drink.

So much for rekindling
childhood friendships,
she had to admit the
evening was a
washout. It was a
shame, she and Megan
had been close once.
Jennifer Potter was about to get a whole lot closer to
Angus in an outdoor ceremony by a lake.
They had only invited Jen’s oldest friends Warren and Teresa to bear witness to their
wedding. The Baileys were thrilled to see her so happy, especially Warren. Jen had
been there for him when his first wife died, and he had supported her through her
divorce to Pablo. Now they both had their happy endings.
Jen hadn’t been sure she would ever find love or happiness again, but Angus had made
her laugh when she was miserable, their differences had only spurred conversation on
and both had experienced terrible previous relationships that only showed them how
different and perfect this new one was.
They exchanged their
vows and rings,
promising to love
each other and
cherish each other
forever.
Warren and
Teresa cheered
as Jen and Angus
became Mr and
Mrs McKirrick.
