65 x 25 Update for New Hampshire Workforce Development
1. 65x25
Achieving Economic Prosperity Through
Post-Secondary Education
65 by 25 is the goal that 65% of NH adults (those 25 and over) will have
some form of post-secondary education, from certificates to advanced
degrees, by 2025. Achieving this goal moves NH much closer to the
targets cited in national research and will position NH to support a
strong future economy.
2. Tale of Two Forces
Reasons to be happy
- Unemployment is 2.1% (3rd)
- Per Capita is Avg/High (17th)
(expensive homes and pay tax)
- Businesses are hiring (for now)
- Potential to hit 65x25
Reasons to be sad
- USNH and CCSNH capture 4,000/yr
- Number of HS students declining
- “Two” (rural/urban) NHs
- Labor supply mismatch
3. NH Relative to 65 percent target

Have Need
8. Billion Dollar Problem
- Today’s 65x25 job shortage is 4,000 jobs (1 year of NH freshmen starts)
- Wage increase averages 32% -- $50mm of GDP (ed cost $25-50mm)
- 80,000 workers upskilling in workforce is $900mm of GDP
- Hard to impact “cost” of not having those workers (loss of business)
9. What you can do TODAY!
- Take an internship (I’ll personally help you out)
- Build an apprentice program (many grants available)
- Encourage every job opening to reduce their requirements, OBT
- Upskill your workers, don’t look for unicorns
- Invest in a workforce pipeline
- Help small businesses hire one more employee (GS 10k)
