FILIPINO CULTURAL HERITAGE
2. WHAT IS A CULTURAL HERITAGE?
• It is the inheritance from the ancestors which most
of us still benefit from it until now.
• A cultural heritage doesn’t always have to include a
material, money or property but is consisted of the
culture, values and traditions from our from our
ancestors
4. The legislation considers cultural heritage referring to the totality
of cultural property preserved and developed through time and
passed on to posterity (Art II, Section 3).
5. There are several cultural heritage sites in the Philippines that
have been demolished are brought down and that alone is the
proof of why we should acknowledge the beauty and power of
these cultural heritage to the economic growth and in the field of
arts and culture.
6. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HERITAGE SITES OF
THE PHILIPPINES?
7. According to UNESCO, There is a total 9(Nine) UNESCO World
Heritage Sites that can be found in the Philippines and all of
these are captivating and eye-catching.
8. CHURCH OF SANTO TOMAS DE VILLANUEVA –
MIAG-AO, ILOILO
The Church of Santo Tomas de
Villanueva in Miag-Ao, Iloilo has an
interesting story behind its first church.
It was burned in the year 1741 by the
Muslim pirates and was constructed on
the same site 6 years later after the
event under the guidance of the parish
priest, Fray Fernando Camporedondo
and was once again burned down in
1754. The church was later on
constructed again on the same site in
the 1787, through the help of Fray
Francisco M.
9. BANAUE RICE TERRACES
The Banaue Rice Terraces is one of
the most outstanding site in the
Philippines. It is a system of irrigated
rice terraces in the mountain of north-
central, Luzon, Philippines.
10. PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN RIVER
NATIONAL PARK
The site is located in
Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
The place has an
exceptional and
captivating ambiance
because of the river
system that directly flows
to the sea. It is also
famous because of the
eye catching rock
formation.
11. TUBBATAHA REEFS NATIONAL PARK
This type of Heritage Site
focuses on the nature and lives
of the animals that lives
underwater. It is also located in
Palawan, Philippines.
12. CHURCH OF SAN AGUSTIN IN MANILA –
INTRAMUROS, MANILA
A cultural heritage site that is
located in Intramorus, Manila.
The church is captivating
because of the features of
retablos that are displayed in
the church. It was built
between 1587 and 1606 and
is also considered one of the
oldest church in the
Philippines.
13. PAOAY CHURCH (CHURCH OF SAN AGUSTIN) –
PAOAY, ILOCOS NORTE
- The church is located in
Paoay, Ilocus Norte and it is a
cultural heritage that was built
in 1604 and was completed in
1710. The church is known to
be one of the most notable
“earthquake baroque”
structures because the primary
concern was to design the
church for earthquake
protection.
14. CHURCH OF NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA
ASUNCION – SANTA MARIA, ILOCOS SUR
Located in Santa Maria, Ilocus
Sur. This Cultural Heritage is one
of the Philippines’ tangible
cultural heritage because of the
power and simplicity of the
geometric forms and location
which made it to one of the
UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites
in the Philippines.
15. MOUNT HAMIGUITAN RANGE WILDLIFE
SANCTUARY
Located in Davao Oriental. This
natural heritage site is as
fascinating as the rest of the
heritage sites found in the
Philippines because of how the
mountail represented a
complete, substantially intact
and highly diverse ecosystem.
