1. 5 Signs You're Depressed
Depression comes in many different forms, and everyone experiences
it differently. When you’re depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless,
lose interest in things you usually enjoy, and have trouble concentrating
on tasks. If you have experienced these symptoms continuously for
more than two weeks, you may be suffering from depression and should
consider seeking help from a doctor or therapist. Here are five signs
that could indicate that you’re depressed and need to seek help.
1) Sleep Patterns
People who are depressed often experience sleep disturbances. They
might fall asleep or wake up at unusual times, or they may have trouble
falling asleep at all. The quality of their sleep is also likely to suffer;
some people with depression wake up in a state of anxiety and
irritability, which makes it difficult to get back to sleep. These effects
can have a seriously negative impact on your mental and physical health:
when you don't get enough sleep, your body's ability to regulate
2. hormones and control appetite is disrupted—which can lead to weight
gain and diabetes as well as difficulty concentrating.

2) Appetite
When you’re depressed, your appetite can be affected and often it
changes in a way that worsens your situation. When you lack motivation
to get out of bed, move or eat, your body begins to feel weak and
lethargic. This can further worsen depression since lethargy can lead
to weight gain, which then lowers self-esteem and leads to more
lethargy. But in many cases, decreased appetite might not be due solely
to depression; some people who are depressed also have an undiagnosed
medical condition (such as hypothyroidism or Cushing’s syndrome), so if
you’re experiencing a change in appetite along with other symptoms like
fatigue or unexplained weight gain, see your doctor for a blood test.

3) Energy Levels
Lack of energy is one of the first signs of depression, but it can also
be one of its most debilitating symptoms. Our bodies are designed to
respond to physical activity with a release of mood-enhancing chemicals
like serotonin. If we don’t move as much, these chemicals remain in
short supply and our motivation dwindles. Lack of energy not only
makes us less active; it also makes us less motivated to do things and
leaves us feeling lethargic and joyless. If you experience long periods
where you just don’t have enough energy to get things done or meet
your daily needs, you might want to see a doctor about depression.

4) Thoughts and Motivation
People who are depressed can lose their motivation to do things. If
you've lost interest in hobbies or activities that you used to enjoy, or
if your mood has changed and you seem unable to feel happiness as
easily as before, it's possible that you're depressed. It may also be a
sign of depression if your desire to complete tasks has decreased,
whether it's doing chores around the house or staying on top of work
projects. Thoughts of suicide: People who are severely depressed often
have suicidal thoughts. If someone close to you starts talking about
killing themselves, or if they start making specific plans for how they'd
go about it (like looking up different methods online), get help
immediately.

5) Ability to Concentrate
If you can’t focus on anything, even simple tasks like getting dressed
or brushing your teeth, you may be suffering from a lack of
concentration. It’s important to maintain basic self-care habits so that
you have enough energy to get through your day and accomplish your
goals. When your concentration is compromised by depression, it can be
extremely difficult to stay productive and enjoy any activities. In
addition to feeling sad or down most of the time, low energy levels can
result in fatigue which will make it difficult for you to function at
work, go out with friends or complete household chores.
