There are lots of ways to make a podcast. And the technical aspects can be daunting. But did you know that while there are many right ways, there are also some major pitfalls to avoid when creating your podcast's .mp3 files?
This quick presentation takes a look at the five most common errors made on the technical side of podcasting, and how to fix them.
This document provides an overview of a BTEC Level 3 Music Technology unit on listening skills for music technologists. The unit will help students recognize sonic faults in recordings and live performances, identify errors in production or performance, and define balance, timbre, and sonic negatives/faults. It discusses various types of faults like incorrect notes, intonation issues, timing errors, editing mistakes, and headphone spill. Students will also learn about how the acoustic environment, monitor choice, listening position can affect the sound quality of performances and recordings. They will research different acoustic environments and examples where the environment is unsuitable for a performance. The document outlines key terms related to audio faults and provides a task for students to research older recordings
Have you ever wanted more listeners? Advertisers? Chances are, your podcast won't attract either. Why?
YOUR PODCAST SUCKS!
But it doesn't have to. With some patience and an understanding of what's wrong, you can fix it.

Podcasting: A Disruption 10 Years in the MakingEvo Terra
After a decade, has podcasting really lived up to the hype by disrupting radio, TV and other forms of media? Or has the disruption yet to have happened? We live in a world of lean startups, social overload, and ubiquitous connectivity, and traditional media plays all of those cards to its advantage. But when podcasters learn the basic tenets of disruption, they open up a world of new possibilities.
The document provides guidance to students on creating a podcast for a class assignment, explaining that they should write a script informing listeners about a topic of their choice and consider the genre, purpose, and intended audience. Examples are given of popular podcasts and how to structure a podcast, including writing an introduction, summarizing upcoming topics, and then discussing each topic in detail.
This document lists 5 podcasting sites that the author Tavis believes are excellent examples of effective podcasts. The sites include The New Yorker's fiction podcasts, NY Times podcasts, CNET's Buzz Out Loud podcast, WNYC's RadioLab podcast, and a podcast from Minnesota State University called The Human Race. The author says they will explain in audio why these 5 podcasting sites are such good examples.
This document summarizes the key findings of the 2016 Infinite Dial study on digital media consumption habits. Some of the main results covered include:
1) Smartphone ownership has grown significantly over time and now stands at over 76% of the population. Tablet ownership has also increased steadily and is now at 51%.
2) Popular online audio brands like Pandora, Spotify and Apple Music have seen substantial growth in awareness and recent usage over the past few years.
3) Friends/family, YouTube and AM/FM radio are the top sources Americans use to discover and keep up with new music. Podcast listening continues to increase each year as well.

The SonyBMG rootkit was a program installed on Sony music CDs that was intended to prevent copying but ended up opening security holes that allowed viruses to infect computers more easily. It affected around 500,000 networks and took 3 months for Sony to release a removal tool. The rootkit altered the way Windows operating systems read CDs and allowed easier virus infections by opening security holes, though its creator intended it only as anti-copying software. To remove the rootkit, the Sony utility would need to be used.
The document describes Imison, a construction system that uses expanded polystyrene (EPS), light gauge steel, and a plaster called Fibrecote. Key points:
- Imison walls can be constructed in less than 3 hours and provide better insulation than brick, keeping houses 6C warmer in winter and 2C cooler in summer.
- Fibrecote plaster gives the walls higher strength than conventional plaster and reduces damp and condensation.
- Imison structures are engineered to withstand extreme loads like hurricanes and heavy snow and remain crack-free.
- The system is accredited by several international standards organizations and has been used to construct buildings from homes to hotels since 1997.

The document summarizes Jeremy Bentham's theory of panopticism and applies it to social media use, specifically Facebook. It discusses how voluntary participation in social media creates a panoptic environment where users feel constantly watched. It then describes an experiment where a student, Sean Foran, posted fake status updates on Facebook to test how believable people find information shared on the platform and how closely they follow notifications. The results showed that Facebook has a strong panoptic effect and people will believe posts and admit to noticing panoptic surveillance when concerned about another's well-being.

I’m OK with your religious beliefs. Really, I am. But I’m not OK with those beliefs controlling policy or attempting to counter demonstrably proven facts about the universe. In this talk, I’ll demonstrate (without the use of hard-to-understand things like carbon dating) how we know the universe is more than 6000 years old.

Digitally Expose Yourself : Building Your Web PresenceEvo Terra
A before-basic intro to the digital world for those who've been reluctant to enter.
Originally given at the 2009 NAR national conference, I've been asked to travel to Prescott to give it to Arizona-based real estate agents.
No, you don't have to be a real estate agent to enjoy it. But it is geared toward them.
Part of the "Social Media 101" series I do before each Phoenix Social Media Club meeting, aimed at those new to the world of social media.
Compromised social media accounts happen. All too often. And it's usually because you did something dumb with your password. So here are some tips on how not to do that.
A short(er) version of a talk I recently gave at SMAZ -- Social Media for Business in Arizona. The house was packed, even though others were talking about the ROI of social media.
I made sure mine had teeth and didn't dance around the issue of ROI. ROI means what ROI means. And CFOs don't care about alternative descriptions for it. They care about money out and want to see money in.
Is that easy? Nope. But it's doable. For some. I give props inside this preso to Olivier Blanchard for the concept that I expand upon. Hope you enjoy it.

The Disconnect: Reasons Companies fail at Social Media and how to SucceedEvo Terra
A presentation for Social Media for Business - SocialMediaAZ.org.
I speak of the the disconnect between business who want to use social media to reach people, and the people who use social media. Different goals. Different outcomes. How can the line up? Hint: the people won't change. Business have to.
The third and final of the "BIG" presentations I presented at Ignite Phoenix.
As a society, and perhaps as a species, we have trouble with things that are truly vast. Things that are beyond our experiences.
This talk will help shed some light on this issue of scale as it effects us daily.
Social Media for the Travel and Tourism industryEvo Terra
An abbreviated version of a lecture I gave to the Cochise County Travel & Tourism workshop. The topic: getting involved in social media. In attendance were 100+ business owners from south eastern Arizona, most of which had limited engagement with social media.
This is very much a BEGINNER class. You won't find advanced topics here.
New Media Business Strategies for Real Estate ProfessionalsEvo Terra
I spoke at NAR 2008 (National Association of Realtors). It was their national convention, held in Orlando Florida. My topic was \\\"digital business strategies\\\", but the topic was really new media strategies. I tailored the topic specific to the needs of real estate professionals brand new to the ideas and concepts behind new media.
5 Reasons Why Your Podcast Sucks On ItunesEvo Terra
The document discusses 5 reasons why podcasts may not be successful on iTunes and provides suggestions for improvement. It states that podcasts should include required iTunes metadata elements, ensure accurate metadata is written to ID3 tags, make each episode distinct, write a descriptive show description, and optimize for discoverability through keywords and descriptive text. The overall message is that properly implementing iTunes metadata standards and techniques can help podcasts be more discoverable and successful on the platform.

2. Listen to something loud, as loud as you can stand it.
3. Listen to your file. Do you have to adjust up the
