Editor's Notes
- How has the PBIA/I-95 Interconnect Project been modified, redesigned and “bundled” together with other road projects since 1995? 1) Two new High Occupancy Vehicle or HOV lanes have been added to the I-95 median strip expanding the mainline from 8 to 10 lanes. 2) The stormwater retention ponds for the Project were originally designed to be located within I-95 median strip. The new HOV lanes now occupy the median strip so the ponds have been pushed out into the City of West Palm Beach’s neighborhoods. 3) The Project has been “rebundled” with the Belvedere Road Interchange Expansion which also had to be modified to accommodate the new HOV lanes and the redesign of an unsafe exit ramp associated with the original Project design. 4) The Project has been “bundled” with the Southern Boulevard Interchange Expansion which also had to be modified to accommodate the new and relocated retention ponds associated with the settlement of the Vedado Neighborhood’s lawsuit against the FDOT. The costs of the Interconnect Project may have gone up $12 million as a result of the Vedado settlement.
