This document provides definitions and examples to distinguish between facts and opinions, primary sources, and introduces vocabulary words. It defines a fact as a statement that can be proven true, an opinion as a statement that cannot be proven true or is a belief. Primary sources are first-hand documents like speeches, journals, diaries or historical documents. Students are asked to choose one word from each of three categories - academic, content area, and selection words - and discuss with a partner.
