This document outlines the inventory control policy and procedures for supplies and feed at the Orange County Animal Shelter. I. PURPOSE:
To outline and define a uniformed inventory control program for all supplies and feed at
OC Animal Shelter.
II. POLICY:
It is the responsibility of the Supervising Kennel Attendant to conduct a weekly inventory
of all general, cleaning supplies and feed.

Applicable to all Shelter Services staff and Supervising ACOs.

A. Inventory – Midway Feed
Use the Inventory Control Log for Midway feed; checking every item on the log.
Record the current supply in stock, date and initial.
Document the amount re-ordered, date and initial.
B. Inventory – Main Supplies
Use the Inventory Control Log for Main Supplies; checking every time on the
log. Record the current supply in stock, date and initial.

C. Inventory Maintenance and Security
It is the responsibility of the Supervising KA to ensure all supplies and feed are
properly stored, secured and kept in an organized manner. The feed and supply
sheds shall be routinely cleaned and organized at once a month or as needed.
D. Storage
All feed (i.e. chicken scratch, grains, rabbit pellets etc…) are to be stored in
rodent-proof containers. Hay shall be stored in the barn on the hay shelf and/or a
raised platform (pallet). It is the Supervising KA responsibility to ensure that
there are enough rodent proof containers available for all the feed.
E. Issuance of Supplies
Field Services:
Only a Supervising ACO and/or/Watch Commander are to sign out for supplies,
feed, etc from kennels. Should Field line staff request any supplies; the
Supervising KA will refer them back to supervision. The Supervising KA will log
all supplies requested on the Supply Sign-Out Log. Field Services supervision is
responsible for maintaining their own supplies.
Kennels:
The KA filling the feed cart will request permission to sign out a key from
Supervising KA office. Once the feed cart is full, the KA will sign the key back
in.
Any supplies and/or equiptment requested by KAs must go through a supervising
KA. At the time of request the KA must turn in the item that is to be replaced. (i.e
raingear, boots, uniforms). If the item to be replaced is not in the KA possession
the supervising KA will refer them to the Chief of Shelter Services.
Any supplies, equipment etc… given to the KAs are to be documented on the
Supply sign-out sheet.
