What a truly special 2013 we have had!
I am touched by the many opportunities given to us to facilitate change in our challenged communities in South Africa, I experience so much love, so much joy and a deep connectedness. I am grateful for a very special team of Change Agents that selflessly reach out to touch and teach, simply because they know deep within what it means to both laugh and cry, to rise and fall and experience life in and through its seasons. What makes the difference is the understanding of that each season has its own teaching and once we tap fully into the lessons it comes with we can taste the sweetness of its fruit - deep within us - and we can trust that nothing is there without a reason.
2013 has reminded me of meeting in our shared humanity and that we are not here to do it on our own. Let us travel together! BE together. Nelson Mandela and his legacy inspires this in us - to keep living true to our hearts, that inner deep calling, voices that truly cares, voices that heal and reach out to each other, voices that builds a healthy nation on equality and love. And as we say our goodbye to one of the greatest leaders of our time we also embrace the opportunity to fuel each of our steps with greater awareness and a much broader "WE Consciousness".
May you enjoy our newsletter and tune into the energy of an inspiring season in our SmilingOne Foundation.
We look forward to share much more with you in 2014.
Happy New Year!

One of the more interesting patterns of life is the degree to which one is with-it, in it or out of it. In primary and secondary school, for the most part, I was with-it, in it, part of it, although it took 2 or 3 years of primary school to make a solid beginning.
A conformity, an almost total consonance, being with-it implies a conformism with, perhaps, a feeling that one is just a little ahead of one’s time, a bit of a trend setter. This was not a dominant part of my day-to-day ethos in those pre-puberal and adolescent days. But there was enough of this inner comfort station in my location to allow me to say I felt at home, part of the scene, at ease.
This was true until I was eighteen, when in the early months of that year I moved to another town where I knew noone. I began here, quite seriously, to feel out of step, out of spiritual affinity with my world. That inner vibration that is in tune with the outside disappeared and there it stayed for ten years. I felt ill-at-ease, with a sense of complaint, of fret, of uncomfortableness, of estrangement, of anomie. And here I stayed, in varying degrees of intensity, until I was twenty-seven. These years coincided with the first ten years of my experience as a pioneer in the Baha’i community.

The ultimate end of man in his life is pleasure; it is the ultimate end of God as well who likes to see his creations worship Him. So, man has varieties of causes for pleasure; one of them is his spiritual pleasure which could be achieved through the medium of poetry. I believe that poetry purges man’s heart in the tumult, glamor and gloom of life. Poetry makes man soar in the space of idealism, pushes him to the edge of scholarship, maturity and reasonability and above all enroots in him kindness and humanity, for he or she inhales how to be a human through the lines of instructive poetry; the poetry that springs from the core of experience; the experience of the smart.
Therefore, the readers of this book find their different quests of their targets; they find the light of their being in life throughout the rhymed poems and lines of this book, they come to the conclusion of what is the value of their being in this life- what they should follow and not to follow; what enlightens their routes of life through its many gloomy ways in which man finds himself arbitrary and compulsory living his/her life with no out let.

What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

DOCTORS, ARE THEY TRUE SUPER HEROES?
3. here's a time in our lives when we experience self-
doubt. We begin to succumb to the negative
Tperspectives of others. At a point in time ,we all
look at the mirror and see beautiful, self-respected
people while others see ugly, damaged and insecure
people. This can easily bring about self-doubt which also
leads to imitation.
Imitation is simply described as exhibiting borrowed
character traits, positive or negative. You can only keep
a fake personality for a while. Some people are so
desperate to be someone else, so desperate to change
their appearance, personality and behaviours. Unknown
to them that as soon as they do that they are instantly
ripping their self-worth into dreaded pieces of self-doubt.
The ability to pull yourself out of self-
doubt is what will define you later in
life.
Digging deep into
this topic, I leave
you with one final
note.
BE EXCEPTIONALLY
YOU
Being a pilot comes with a lot of
benefits as well as challenges.
Even though it goes with prestige
and respect in the society, your job
is not different from that of the boat
captain, the car driver or chauffeur,
or a train driver. The difference is
the turf where you operate.
While the boat captain operates on
water, the car driver on the road,
and the train driver on a rail line, the
air pilot is on air. The air pilot has the
responsibility of ensuring that his
passengers are comfortable and
safe throughout the duration of the
flight, as he is the only person that
knows what to do from takeoff and
to safely landing the airplane at its
destination.
For the pilot to be promoted and his
position enhanced, he must fly
regularly and have increased flying
hours regularly. This, obviously,
comes with the price of being away
from family and loved ones.
Public holidays and vacation
seasons are often peak season for
airlines, as most airlines have full
bookings in these times, translating
Life as a
PILOT
Life as a
into more profit. Without the pilots, these are impossible to
achieve. Most times, they get home very late and leave very
early. They live a regimented life style just to see that their airlines
make profit.
Anyone who desires to be a pilot as a career should look at
the pros and cons before taking the leap. Nevertheless, being
a pilot comes with nobility.
My best friend is a book
That does not give me a weird look
Some books are boring like history
Which is like a big mystery.

In them you find the enlightenment to
do something
Reading books is the best way to
know anything.

4. Be the best
Amongst the rest;
Always come first.
No matter how hard you try,
Even if you cry,
Your aim is above the sky.
Agreat man once said, “Until you get tired of failing
you will never succeed.”That's why whenever you
reach rock bottom, there's only one place left to go
and that's the top. No matter how hard your goal is,
no matter how many times you've failed always
remember you are going to be great someday.
Currently, if you asked
me where I'd be in ten
years' time, you'd be
amazed by my answer.
Always remember this,
never be afraid to
dream big and achieve
the impossible.
Now ask yourself,
“WHERE WOULD
YOU BE IN THE
NEXT TEN YEARS?”
hen I was eight, a question was asked by
my teacher, “What would you like to
Wbecome in the future?”And my response
was: “An astronaut”.When I was ten, that same
question came up, and my response remained the
same.
However, at thirteen, a friend asked me a similar
question, “Where do you see yourself in the next
ten years?”And shockingly, the question came with
a touch of uncertainty.
It was then it hit me: time doesn't wait for anyone,
because someday that question would become
reality.
Take every single opportunity that comes your way
and aim for the impossible. It doesn't matter how
smart or intelligent you are right now. What matter
are the problems you can solve, what you can do,
what you can create or invent with the little or more
knowledge you have. The richest men today aren't
just business tycoons; they are men who have
solved real-world problems, men with value, not
those who wait for opportunities but those who
prepare for them.

But always remember to love,
And you would soar like a dove,
Up above.

5. Night-Time
Drifted away by swift winds that hit against my tender heart,
I'm trapped in my comfort zone forever without escape.
The claws of shame, reproach and loneliness have a mighty grip
on me.
Those that comfort me they pursue.
Acomplex of times I face but go down in defeat.
A complex of times I try to overcome in the battlefield
Each day of my uncompleted life,
BUT ALL TO NO AVAIL...
Forces unknown wrestle with my joy
And now I dread to step out of my comfort zone,
Lost in my search for help
Terrified by the thought of fear.
Demons have padlocked my mouth
And my thoughts are locked within.
I'm in love with the thought of
happiness
Though unable to gain its warm
embrace.
Freedom from this deadly prison
Is my only wish and dream from the
Lord,
But will my sinful heart let me be?
I wish to turn back to Christ
But trepidation overwhelms me
And now,
I run back to my old ways.
If only I be bold and stand up,
Put the devil to shame, and repent!
BUTSTILLTO NOAVAIL!
I'm lost in the thought of self-condemnation
When the denial of the word of truth
Reveals its dreadful consequences.
I am in love with the thought of repentance
And give my life to Christ,
I shall but sin holds me still
Sin is my only mental prison,
Sin is the joy of the world.
Sin builds a wall between
God and me.
God is my PROTECTOR!
But the devil blinds my eyes with
the joys of sin and takes me
unawares.
Am I supposed to resist the devil
Ignore the pleasures of the world
And accept Christ into my heart in
spirit and in truth and do the work of
the Lord with joy AND NEVER GO
BACKTO MYOLD WAYS?

7. A healthy diet helps to prevent certain long-term diseases such as heart disease, stroke and
diabetes. It also helps to reduce the risk of developing some cancers and helps to keep a healthy
weight. It is general advice for most people (especially the elderly) to
eat healthy to improve life vitality. The advice may be different for
certain groups of people with certain health problems or those with
special dietary requirements.
It is important to find the right balance between these different
nutrients to achieve maximum health benefits. A balanced diet
generally contains food from each of the following food groups:
Starchy foods such as bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc.
1. Fruit and vegetables.
2. Milk and dairy foods.
3. Protein foods. These include meat, fish, eggs
4. Foods that contain fats and oil can also be eaten,
but in high moderation.
The Benefits of Healthy Eating
Real friends have your back
Even when you lack
They support whatever you do
Whether it's wrong or true
Real friends love you
Even when they bug you
They tell you what's right
Just to make you bright
Real Friends
Real friends are always by your side
When the nation is great and wide
They will move mountains
Just to be with you.

An indicating sign, a beckon to reroute;
With every step, it comes again and again;
Ablinding veil, beyond it is the rain.
You bow your head in shocking anguish
To your fantasies, hoping it all was just a wish.
Little do you know how far you've come;
Not to talk of how strong you'll become.
Success is failure turned inside-out,
The silver tint of clouds of doubt.
You never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far
So stick to the fight when hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse-
That you must not quit.

9. ive Nights of Glory is an iconic event
that takes place in January, every
Fyear, mapped out by God to save and
transform the lives and destinies of His
people. This event came about after a
series of obedience to certain divine
instructions by Pastor David Ibiyeomie
through the leading of the Holy Spirit. This
event has marked notable miracles, signs,
wonders and countless testimonies over
the years and more are yet to come.
In 2007, the Port Harcourt Miracle Crusade
held at The Liberation Stadium gathered
mammoth crowd as well as incredible signs
and wonders. This program eventually
progressed into becoming the NIGHT OF
GLORY in 2010, first held at the Salvation
Ministries Cathedral Site Igwuruta, Port
Harcourt, due to the fact that the crowd
gathered in 2007
could not contain
at the previous
location.
This edition of the
program had its
message tagged
JESUS IS THE
ANSWER, with
its key scripture
Matthew 11:28 -
Then Jesus said,
“Come to me, all
of you who are
weary and carry
heavy burdens,
and I will give you
rest”.
In 2011, this program – still the Night of
Glory- gained a massive increase in crowd
and miracles produced. Its message
“WHERE DO YOU BELONG?” led to a
massive harvest of souls: the moment
God's servant, David Ibiyeomie, proceeded
to make an altar call. Out of thin air, the
Night of Glory, held in 2010 and 2011,
metamorphosed into 5 NIGHTS OF
GLORY (5NOG). The 5 Nights of Glory
began in 2012, as there was no space to
gather all worshippers and attendees in just

taught by Pastor David
Ibiyeomie that year, brought
about flabbergasting and
astounding miracles not just at
the headquarters, but the
satellite churches and viewing
centers.
Moving on, the 2013
and 2014 editions had
t h e t o p i c s “ T H E

“ T H E S P I R I T O F
EXCELLENCE & INTEGRITY” taught by Pastor
David Ibiyeomie. Also, 5 Nights of Glory began to
gain unimaginable international ground. The 2015
edition of this event had its message titled
“Unveiling the Power of John 3:16”. This scripture
was dissected with insights on Visionary, The
Power of Love, The Power of Faith & the Power of
Giving. In 2016 – the Year of Supernatural Speed -
5 Nights of Glory truly gained divine speed, as God
showed us His hand throughout the program, as
core Arab nations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Oman, Algeria and UAE joined other nations to
watch online. The scripture reference for the
program was Revelation 5:12, with topic “Walking in
Dominion”.
This was taught by Pastor David Ibiyeomie, who described
to all attendees how to walk in and enjoy Dominion in
Power, Wisdom,
Honor, Blessing,

This edition also
had great men of

of Evangelist Billy Graham of blessed memory in
attendance. The themes for 2017 and 2018 were “FROM
GRASS TO GRACE” and “THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HIS
RESURRECTION” respectively. As at 2018, the viewing
centers of the program had increased to a thousand
two hundred, with millions in attendance. The theme
for the 2019 edition of the program was “ACCESSING
YOUR INHERITANCE”, and for the first time ever, 5
Nights of Glory had morning sessions as well as
evening sessions. The first morning session saw
Pastor Femi Emmanuel speak on“SUSTAINING
RELATIONSHIPIN MINISTRY.”
The just concluded 2020 edition, with the theme “God the Maker of Man” saw various men of God
both internationally and Nigerian based in attendance. As declared, the Year of Greater Glory, the
event went to a new realm of Greater Glory, as for the first time, a Healing School was held, as a
result of Pastor David Ibiyeomie's obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This Healing School
brought about numerous miracles, signs and wonders such as the blind regaining their sight,
crutches being dropped, amongst others. This edition of the 5 Nights of Glory preceded the sixth
and seventh services – Youth Arise and Business Hour (now known as Business and Career
th
Hour) – which began on the26 of January 2020, and has since produced incredible testimonies in
relationships, businesses etc.
This edition also witnessed the unveiling of the world's colossal space frame cathedral – The
Hand of God Cathedral.
The long awaited nights seem to draw closer and closer. The 5 Nights of Glory 2021, scheduled for
th nd
18 to 22 January 2021, is the event of the year 2021. 2020 was great, but 2021 will surely be
greater. We are completely in awe awaiting its coming.

Life indeed is a puzzle,
Its correlation with time makes it all seem a hustle.
But do we ever sit to cherish
How far we've come? Our hope never seizes to perish.
Under the glowing skies of blue
To the sunset, with clouds of marveling hue
The feeling of positive vibes fills the arena
With grins on our faces, and evergreen memories to
remember
Oh! Those days of frolic and fun!
In the playground, we all basked in the sun.
When we look upon our scars, we remember indeed;
How serious pranks caused us deeply to bleed.
Afterwards, we'd spend our free time on prattle,
Going on about anything in a verbose battle.
But love was all that drove us to the very end.
Oh! Those days of evergreen memories one could never
lend.
A flashback to the wild times,
The start of teenage, your caged excitement sublimes.
All around you socialization takes a new turn,
Like lying in a field of dandelions, sentimental thoughts
churn.
When alone and bored your heart all in a fluster,
Hanging out with friends would be the best form of cluster.
Although we had a lot of problems to bare,
Those evergreen memories were always there to share.
Our spirits kindled like fire from a stove;
Enjoying every moment as they came with love.
Each time of fun, love and care,
We savored all, such memories were so rare.
As life moves, and time is always on the run,
It's not always moving to hang out and have some fun.
So let's take a breath; you and me,
And reminisce evergreen memories that never seize to be.
These memories all connect to just a smile.
The love, kindness and happiness, all worth the while.
Each new page blooms with colorful words.
These memories will surely remain green.

13. TIPS TO BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT
A student is a person engaged in studies; one
who is devoted to learning. A successful
student is a student who does not wait for exam
to read. He prepares for exam from the
resumption date. He has what is called the
reading culture. He is hungry for knowledge.
He focuses on studies. He thinks like the
teacher.
Below are the vital tips to becoming a
successful student:
1. Your studies should be your number one:
To be a successful student you must
make your studies number one. It should
be your priority. This doesn't mean you
can't attend parties and have fun and also
feel good: You should know your studies
are very important and education is key.
2. Punctuality: You must have a habit of
being punctual. You must be early. If you
are always late, then you miss out on
some important information. You must be
early for lectures, and always plan on
time.
3. Work truthfully and diligently: Do your
work honestly. Avoid self-deceit. Avoid
lies when it comes to education. Avoid
cheating in exams and tests. It is better to
fail what you don't know than cheating
and moving on. We learn from failures
and to avoid failure you have to prepare
before exam date.
4. Be focused: If you have to study for three
hours, then be focused and be committed
and try to understand. Take breaks if
necessary. Train your mind to
concentrate.
5. Avoid comparison: Don't compare
yourself with someone else. You will
end up being discouraged and feeling
intimidated. Just do your best.
However, you can positively
benchmark yourself with someone else
that is good to help you do better.
6. Set goals: If you want to be a successful
student, then aim at high grades like A*
and A. Work hard to achieve it. Set
goals every term and improve little by
little.
Other tips for being a successful student
are:
* Pay attention in class
* Note taking- there is a saying that "the
shortest pencil is longer than the longest
memory”.
* Be interactive with your teacher
* Participate actively in class
* Avoid distractions
* Take advantage of extra marks
* Commitment to education
Finally, it is important to note that learning
does not end in the classroom. After learning
in the classroom, you don't close your books,
continue studying and you will achieve
success.

But it can't happen
What a pity
The sunrise, the sunset
The green grass is all at rest
Waiting for the lightening beam
This has all been a daydream
Surrounded by animals weak with hunger
Yet I feel they can be stronger
If I had my way to redeem
It will feel like a daydream
The big trees all aloof
Can they just disappear in a poof?
Meadows, and running streams
Such a pleasant daydream
Rainbows in great discordant unity
Waterfalls with such creativity
Only if we come together as a team
That will be better than a daydream

16. What makes you happy?
What do you have
passion for? What is it
you want to be doing ten
to fifteen years from now,
while staying happy with
yourself for the choice
you have made?
My choice to become a
professional footballer
gave me the answers to
these questions. In this
part of the world,
anything other than the common prestige
occupations, like being a lawyer, doctor and all
others, is not something you would get support
for, and even your parents are of the same view.
I've thought about what I want to be doing with my
life for a really long time, to think of taking football
as just a hobby. Personally, I know it is not
something that you stay in for a really long time as
other careers I mentioned earlier, but it is what I
will be committed to and be happy doing it. My
dream is something you can guess if you are
really close to me.
However, the most important thing is God's grace,
because being in the right place at the right time
doing the right thing is not easy. My only wish is for
the people I call my own to give me their full
support.
To my parents, I'm saying this is more than just a
hobby for me, and to all other parents out there,
whose children aspire to be somebody while
doing something uncommon, I say, please listen
to your children, because you never know what
they could amount to doing what they know how
to do best. Their decision may not seem best now,
but give them your utmost support, as in the long
run, it is expected to yield bountiful fruits.

WHY SOME
NWANKWO IHUOMA
YEAR 11 LEARNER
There are many times we have heard about
students cheating in examinations. We
have heard of students who have been
expelled because of it. But why do students
do it? Some say it is because they are not
serious, but is it true?
The thing is, the educational system values
grades more than learning. How? Elon
Musk once said, "Someone can obtain a
bachelor's degree but still be an idiot."
(Paraphrased some bit). This is true.
Nowadays, students study for the purpose
of passing exams and after the exams, they
totally forget what they have read. Now,
some students don't even like studying and
they do not bother. They think up ways to
cheat just so that they can pass. Then
afterwards, they leave school with nothing
in their brains yet they get jobs with their
fake results. Their qualifications look
excellent, but they had cheated their way
into getting those excellent results. I mean,
we don't need a certificate to change the
world. Look at Mark Zuckerberg. He
invented facebook and became a billionaire
before he even got his certificate. He didn't
need grades to succeed.
Those who cheat end up being cheated in
life because you don't need to cheat to
become successful. This means the
educational system should accept and
honour intelligence
more than grades. I
do not speak against
students who get
good grades but
against those who
cheat their way to
getting good grades.
This is why some
students cheat in
examinations and
why learning and
intelligence should
be accepted rather
than grades.

the Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Not forgetting
the beautiful beaches in Zanzibar, Tanzania and the Obudu

Tragedy in a sense that if these

Entertainment, on the other hand,

At the sea where the sand lays,
With chill breeze where I could row,
I love that natural flow
Up on the mountain so high and steep,
It goes all the way to the ground deep,
Where I hear the deserts crow,
I adore that natural flow
Playing in the forest, dirty as a pig,

25. The smiles and laughs of people? The deep
pleasure derived from doing what you love?
Happiness can mean many things. It comes
from within and works its way outwards; like
fizzing bubbles in a soft drink. Sometimes, we
choose to be happy and other times we don't -
mostly because majority of us don't find true
happiness in what we see and experience every
day.
Sometimes we try to be happy but get gambled
out of the game either by compromise or
unforeseen factors. The truth is, we are who we
are and true happiness really comes from the
joy of living. It's mostly about us, not others as
some may think because everyone has a lane,
and their ability to maintain that lane without
diverting is really what matters.
One very common mistake people make is
being glum in different scenarios they find
themselves. Sometimes, we feel incomplete or
unsatisfied with the state of things, and really
hope it would all be better. In other words, most
people focus on the rain and are oblivious to the
sunshine in them.Atypical example is the earth.
At given points in time, it's either day in one part
or night in the other; people at the time of day try
to make the best of it by living their daily lives,
and others at the time of night simply sleep it off.
Nobody is perfect and we all have our flaws;
dwelling on them doesn't make matters better.
Trying to be a better version of yourself is vital
but instead of just criticizing yourself for not
getting along with others or for making that silly
mistake that everyone seems to blow out of
proportion, calm yourself and understand it's all just
part of life's journey; it's never really as bad as it
seems. Kids did not just start running; they learnt the
art first by crawling, standing and then falling and so
on. The joy is in daring to make a move in the first
place.
Find peace in God's word and read your Bible. We all
are special in our own ways. If others do not see what
we have, it's not the problem. Not seeing it as well is
a big rock in our way. Self-encouragement is the
main thing that will actually lift our spirits, and being
around the right company that we deem comfortable
is really helpful too. When we're happy, it shows and
lights up wherever we go. It might not generate good
energy amongst others but who cares? It is us
enjoying life with full-fledged happiness and joy.
We should also try to avoid competition and move
more with our own speed. Friendly competition is
okay but should be avoided when it becomes too
serious. In whatever aspect we find ourselves:
academics, sports, etc., we should just try to be
better versions of ourselves instead of whatever puts
us in unhealthy competitions. Everyone has a drop
dead talent and as insignificant as we think it is, it has
its share in impact and potential.
In conclusion, nothing is ever prim and perfect, and
our ability to shun the devil and look at the bright side
is the main point of
happiness.

26. “Vanessa Williams, get down here right now!” The
unmistakable sound of her mother's furious voice made
her give an exasperated sigh, and for the third time that
day, she shut her diary and yelled the same response;
“Coming Mum!” Vanessa threw her slippers on, and
trudged down the creaky stairs, fiddling with her messy
bun as she descended. What could it be this time? She
thought. Her thoughts in a whirl, she headed straight
towards where the voice had come from and turned to
see her mother, a grim expression on her pale face,
standing just outside the guest bathroom. Needless to
say she was less than pleased. The two stood facing
each other, as if one was expecting the other to actually
speak. This seemed to go on forever until Vanessa finally
said, “Well? You called me, didn't you?”
“So you're really going to act like you don't know what I
called you for?”
“Well yeah, 'cause I
don't!”
“Oh really? Then how
do you explain this?”
She pushed open the
bathroom door to
reveal a line of muddy
footprints, leading up
to the sink. Vanessa
gasped as she opened
the door.'What a
mess!' She thought.
Then she realized that
her mum was looking
hard at her, expecting
an answer. She was
confused for a minute; 'why is she looking at me? I
haven't even been in the guest bathroom today and…’
Suddenly, it dawned on her. “Wait, mum. You're not
actually thinking that I'm the one responsible for this,
right?
“Ok then, who else in this house wears size 6 Sketchers
trainers, hmm?”
“Mum, you have to believe me, I…”
“I don't want to hear it Vanessa. You know we're having
visitors in a couple of hours and I can't have this place
looking like this.” She took a deep breath as she
continued, “You're grounded. For a week. No TV, no
laptop. Maybe next time you'll think twice before messing
up my house.”
Vanessa opened her mouth to retort, but then concluded
it was no use. It was just the same old thing
as any other day; getting in trouble for
ridiculous things she had never done.As she
dragged herself back upstairs, she noticed
something peculiar; her sister's bedroom
door was open and underneath the wooden
bed she saw something that made her blink.
Moving closer, she finally realized what it
was. Her very own trainers were lying under
Phoebe's bed, covered from head to toe in
thick brown mud. She was practically
burning as she saw those shoes, the colour
of her face looking more like that of a clown's
nose. The longer she stared, the more
enraged she got. 'That. Little. Beast. When I
get my hands on that girl, I'm gonna…’
Her thoughts

loud notification
on her phone.
'School starts

'Oh yeah, forgot
about that…'
The next day,
Vanessa sprung
out of bed in
record time. No,
not because she
was excited to go

anything; but she was finally going to see her
two best friends after a ten-week long, boring
summer. She admired her new uniform in the
mirror for like, the 50th time that morning; a
tartan purple and navy blue pleated skirt with
a crisp white shirt and a smart, dark blazer.
Not even bothering to pay any attention to
her little sister, she grabbed a sandwich for
breakfast and headed out the front door,
trying to look more confident than she felt.
The bus ride was alright, although for some
reason, she started feeling slightly nervous.
She tried to calm herself down but when she
saw her new school, it felt like the butterflies
in her stomach had decided to throw a huge
party and invite all their relatives. It was as
big as a castle, and she got the feeling she
was going to get lost several times. At least

27. the sight of her pals gave her a bit more courage. She
greeted Camilla and Jordyn with a big smile and they
talked for what seemed like ages until the bell rang. “Well
guys, here we are,” Camilla breathed.
“Yep, it's gonna be a great term. I can feel it already,”
Jordyn added.
“If you say so,” Vanessa said, shakily. As the trio walked
towards the main entrance, Vanessa took a deep breath
and said, “Here we go…”
As it turned out, life at Lakewood High wasn't as bad as
Vanessa imagined. Teachers were nice, classes were
alright and in a nutshell, it was all good. But life at home
was…well…pretty bad. Phoebe, a dainty little thirteen-
year-old with a sickly-sweet smile and a face of complete
innocence, was doing everything she could to make life
awful for her big sister. On numerous occasions, Vanessa
had been punished for silly things which she didn't even
do! She had always had very strong feelings that her little
sister was behind all this, but her evidence just wasn't
good enough. Everyone believed that a child like Phoebe
could never do such things, but Vanessa knew that her
sister was capable of doing any deed, and she was set out
to prove it.All she needed was the right opportunity.
“Vanessa!”
Ok, so it was getting a little old now. She knew the routine
already, I mean it didn't really take long to learn. She came
face to face with her mother and braced herself for the
worst. “Where on earth did you put my textbooks? I have a
big assessment coming up at work and I can't afford to fail
it.”
“Mum, I don't have your textbooks.”
Mrs. Williams sighed heavily, “ who else in this house
reads my IGCSE textbooks?”
“I don't know but I can tell you it wasn't me. Think about it
mum, I was at gymnastics practice this entire morning and
afterwards I went to Aldi to pick up some things for
tomorrow's baking class. I only just came back about 10
minutes ago and since then, I've been up in my room. If
you look at it carefully, I haven't even entered you study
this entire weekend, so how could I have taken the
books?”The woman thought carefully about all her fifteen-
year-old had said. Then she asked, almost uncertainly,
“Then who do you think took them?”
Vanessa, delighted at the fact that she had actually been
listened to, replied in a smooth tone, “Mum, I know exactly
who.”
For the first time in her entire life, Vanessa finally heard her
mum yell a name that wasn't hers. “Phoebe Williams!” It
felt so good, Vanessa was actually satisfied. After a long
talk between Mrs. Williams and Phoebe, everything had
been cleared up, and now, Vanessa was about to get the
fair treatment she deserved. The young girl sat down
opposite her mother and her big sister,
looking down and avoiding eye contact with
both of them at all times. Their mother
started by apologizing profusely to her first
child, whom she had been wrong about all
these years. Vanessa, a good-natured girl,
accepted her apology without making too
much of a fuss and waited for her sister's
turn. What was said that day between
Phoebe and her mother, is something
neither of them thought would ever be said.
But it had to happen. Phoebe denied none of
the accusations and got her fair punishment.
Mrs. Williams was shocked, dejected and
disappointed, but she learnt a very valuable
lesson that day; all that glitters is not gold.

28. Of Course, Grasshopper and Toad are very
different, but they are also very good friends.
Once upon a time, Toad invited Grasshopper to his
house to eat with him and Grasshopper was happy
and said, “I'd love to come, thank you very much”.
He was very happy as he arrived at Toad's house.
Both of them used their front legs to eat and so,
before sitting down, Toad washed his front legs
and asked Grasshopper to do the same, and then
they sat down round the pot.
But when Grasshopper ate, he always rubbed his
front legs together, which made a loud noise.
“Grasshopper my friend, can't you stop doing that?
It's impossible to eat with such a noise,” said Toad.
Grasshopper tried very hard to eat without rubbing
his front legs together but it was impossible. Each
time he made a sound, Toad complained and
asked him to be quiet. Grasshopper became very
angry and could not eat; he had to leave the food.
As he was leaving, he said to Toad, “Why don't you
come to my house for dinner tomorrow.”
The next day, Toad arrived at Grasshopper's
home. As soon as the meal was ready.
Grasshopper washed his front legs and asked
Toad to do the same. Toad washed his front legs
and then hopped towards the food.
“Please go and wash again”, said Grasshopper,
“all that hopping in the dirt has made your legs dirty
again.”
Toad hopped back to the water jar, washed again,
and then hopped back to the pot. He was about to
reach out for some food when Grasshopper
stopped him. “Please don't put your dirty legs into
the food. Go and wash again”.
By now Toad was very hungry. “You don't want me
to eat with you!” he cried. “You know very well that I
must use my legs to hop about. I can't help it if they
get a little dirty between the water jar and the
cooking pot.”
Grasshopper replied, “You are the one who started
all this yesterday. You know that I can't eat without
rubbing my front legs together and making a noise.
I ate nothing at your house!”
Would these two old friends quarrel and
lose their friendship? Suddenly, they
began to laugh together. Each one
realized how selfish they had been.
Toad said, “Forgive me, Grasshopper,
we've been good friends for a long time
and we want to keep our friendship. We
should learn to accept our differences.”
I'm sorry, too.” Grasshopper replied.
“Yes, accepting our differences is even
more important than enjoying the things
that make us like each other so much.”
They are still best friends and eat
happily together.

t seems too good to be true, and resembles a
fairytale like the ones we read when we were
Imuch younger. Six years of hard work,
determination and resilience has finally paved the
way for each one of us to go into a new phase of life.
It feels like we just entered Year 7 yesterday, when
we looked so young and were so naïve, when we
licked ice-cream and soiled our cardigans with it;
when our mummies spanked us because we were
very mischievous and naughty: Those days of
infanthood are now over.
Our mummies and daddies, words cannot describe
how grateful we are to you for choosing this highly
sophisticated citadel of learning, Chokhmah
International Academy, for us. Your love for us is
ineffable; and we pray to God daily to increase you
in all ramifications. Thank you for giving us your
time, hard-earned resources and forsaking your
leisure time just to make sure we get the very best.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We want to use this opportunity to thank Chokhmah
International Academy for instilling in us good moral
values and teaching us how to cope with the
vicissitudes of life. We were inspired innumerable
times by the teachings of Papa and the staff of the
school. Each person, we mean each individual, had
a role to play in our success story, and just like a
puzzle wouldn't be complete with just one piece
missing, our success story would not have been
complete without any of them.
Given this privilege, we want to thank Papa and
Mama for the parental roles they played in our lives:
these people are perfect role models who have led
us in the right path by teaching us Godly values and
have set the pace for us. We count ourselves very
privileged to be associated with anointed trail
blazers like them.
Also, the administration of the school, comprising the
board of management and the Vice Principals
(Administration and Academics) have really been
superb!
Next, it is expedient we recognize the graduation
committee. Our graduation ceremony was bomb! It
exceeded our expectations and sent chills through our
spine. Not to talk of the excitement when we opened the
souvenirs; lo and behold, we were dumbstruck. Thank
you so much!
Furthermore, the academic staff need to be accorded
the respect they deserve, the people who have toiled
and are the backbone of each grade on our score sheet.
Collectively, we say a very big thank you to every single
teacher. Teachers are excellent individuals saddled with
the responsibility of empowering a child academically,
and these geniuses have performed this duty
excellently well and deserve some accolades.
We do not forget the priceless efforts of the non-
academic staff: The receptionists, the nurses, the hostel
parents, the launderers, the drivers, the janitors and so
many other important people who helped us immensely.
We are grateful to God for meeting them and we
appreciate all their efforts.Thank you!
An adage says: 'The best is kept for the last'. We remain
grateful to ourAlmighty Father for seeing us through this
crucial stage of life and making each of us come out
resplendent and successful.
With one collective voice, we say 'thank you Chokhmah
International Academy.' We have not left the CIA family.
Wherever we go, we will keep the flag flying. We are so
proud of our alma mater. We are honored to have been
inducted into the alumni association and are now
ambassadors of this prestigious college. We have gone
to the next phase of life and are extremely grateful to
God to have attended Chokhmah International
Academy.

30. Imagine fixing your car without ever being in an
engineering class. Impossible? No. Chances are
you haven't heard about Augmented Reality yet.
You're probably wondering what AR is all about.
Well, you should read on to find out.
What is AR? Augmented Reality is simply an
enhanced reality in which virtual objects are added to
the real world in real-time.
How does it work? Well, you can start by imagining
playing an AR board game based off of a real cereal
box. First,
t h e
computer
v i s i o n
scans the
b o x t o
trigger the
game. The
image of the
cereal box
can then be
enhanced
with the AR game i.e. the original frame is overlapped
with the new digital elements. All you have to do is
scan a building or object and you can do countless
things with your scanned image, ranging from
learning all about it to playing virtual games. Isn't that
just cool?
"When was this incredible tech developed?” you may
ask. Believe it or not but AR can be traced back 52
years ago. 1968 was the year this (not so new)
technology made a debut. Invented by Harvard
professor, Ivan Sutherland, it didn't get its name until
1990 from Boeing Researcher,Tim Caudell.
Now, for the best part: where can AR be used? Not
surprisingly, this astonishing invention is being used
to explore various aspects of life. This, of course,
includes solving site-
construction challenges in
architecture, 3D navigation
and investigation in
archaeology and of course,
d i g i t a l i n s t r u c t i o n s
replacing paper manuals in
industrial manufacturing.
Don't worry, it doesn't stop
there as there's a perfect
example we can all relate
with- Snapchat. How? Well, don't fail to remember
your various filters and 'Bitmoji's' that magically
appear on your screen. Not only do these digital
elements get you likes, but they are also a perfect
example ofAR.
There's more. These days, AR is being used in
medical scenarios such as surgeries, therapy and
whatnot. You can also experience AR in video games
and other social interactions.
What's The Difference? AR vs. VR vs. MR.
There's no doubt that a lot of people find it hard to
differentiate between Augmented Reality, Virtual
Reality and Mixed Reality. But, trust me, there are
differences between the trio. Here's the basic stuff:
AR: Puts virtual objects into our real world, ultimately
enhancing our real-life experience.
VR: Gives you a virtual world that is simulated with
unreal experiences.
MR: Not just overlays but anchors virtual objects to
the real world.
“I'm excited about augmented reality because unlike
virtual reality, which closes the world out, AR allows
individuals to be present in the world but hopefully
allows an improvement on what's happening
presently".
Tim Cook.
How Far So Far? AR is long on promises but short on
delivery. However, there's no doubt that once it
arrives, it will be everywhere. Recently, various car
companies have been known to take particular
interest in the use of AR in upcoming car products.
Software programs such as the 'Nvidia DriveAR' have
started production to bring this long-awaited dream to
actuality.
One thing's for sure-I definitely can't wait for the full
outbreak of this life-changing technology.

Why do I have to read?

Why do I have to work hard?

Big bright and beautiful rainbow
It beckons me, calling me
To come over and be great.
Oh if such bright future awaits me
What is this little time to work for?
I'll work and ache, I'll do it
Just to get that rainbow up there lit.
Oh our dear, dear Nigeria,
Who dares disrespect thee?
Who dares make thee look like a beggar
In the presence of thy enemies?
Who dares stain and corrupt thy soil,
With the blood of thy children?
Who dares spend unclean money on thee?
Who dares spit on thee and tell thee that thou
Will never make it?
Who dares? Who dares?
Who dares think that they have spoilt thee and
they can get away with it?
Who dares stay in thy land and shot down thy

Who dares cry and seek for thy mercy when he is

Who dares beg and beg, to be rescued by thee

32. Confidence is the act of being bold, while self-
confidence is the act of trusting in yourself and
knowing that you can do it. There comes a time in
every child's life when self-confidence is needed.
Without self-confidence, self-defence will be
lacking.
HOW TO DEVELOP SELF–CONFIDENCE
1. Read self-confidence books (books that will
boost your self- confidence).
2. Always try practicing (in-front of a mirror) at
least three days a week. Imagine yourself with
an audience, try saying something and see
how you feel.
3. Have a self-confidence result chart (each day
you try practicing, jot down your result to see if
you are improving).
4. Learn to talk with bold people.
Learn to make friends: in our today's world, it
is realized that people who do not have self-
confidence are people who are too shy to talk
and people who do not like to make friends.
Friends are the ones who urge you to get the
fear of low-confidence out of your mind.
5. Never give up.
Trust God and trust in yourself: Nothing is
possible without God by your side; and it is
often said ''Heaven helps those who help
themselves.” Have faith in yourself and know
it in your heart that you will surely make it.
Don't let any discouraging word from anyone
change your heart.
6. Pray.
Lastly, encouragement from your teachers
and your guardians.
NOTE: Never you think low of yourself because you
can do all thing through Christ who strengthens you.
MY DAYS
Each day when I wake up I will do my best
And I never will make a mess.
My days will be colorful as the rainbow
Just as the star glazes at night.
I won't worry or be sad because I have a light.
I'll do my best to stay happy;
Each day will be like a star changing its glaze.
My days will always be like a moonlight, shinning.
My days will remain that way…
