In March 2011 Prime Minister David
Cameron launched an independent
Employee Engagement Task Force to
share good practice, generate debate
and offer support to businesses via new
website engageforsuccess.org
The move followed the publication of 150-page
report Engaging for Success, commissioned by
the previous Government in response to the
economic downturn to examine whether a
wider take up of engagement approaches
could impact positively on UK competitiveness
and performance.
With business leaders needing more than ever
to maximise productivity and public sector
bosses needing ‘better for less’, the clear
organisational benefits of successful employee
engagement have seen the issue rise high on the
boardroom agenda.
There is an abundance of research which
demonstrates the tangible impact of long-term
strategies which engage employees, making
them more productive, more customer-focused
and less likely to leave.
Gallup surveyed 50,000 businesses in 34
countries with 1.5m employees in 2012 and
found those which scored in the top half of
employee engagement had twice the chance of
success of those in the bottom half.*
However, engagement strategies need to be
both genuine and two-way; if not they simply
backfire as employees quickly see through
cynical management attempts to manipulate
added commitment and end up disillusioned
and less productive.

coach with extensive leadership experience in the pharmaceutical
manufacturing sector and a combined 30 years in the chemical and
pharmaceutical industries. He is an architect of bespoke in-house turnkey

Ian Teggert
An established Lean and 6 Sigma practitioner and an accredited Marshall
Goldsmith coach with 30 years in the FMCG, automotive, rail and
pharmaceutical industries and extensive senior management experience. He
has a track record of design and delivery of improvement strategies to turbo

Kenny Wright
A hands-on Lean practitioner and an accredited Institute of Leadership &
Management trainer with 30 years’ experience in the automotive industry
and consultancy. He integrates the HOT Lean Academy and implementation
