Modernity has significantly influenced the branches of human knowledge; architecture has a substantial share in this effect. Modern architecture, in turn, was not a negative recipient to impact, but it was a positive catalyst for decades. Moreover, it did not limit to certain geographic boundaries, but it has spread all over the world and Cyprus was not an exception. Due to most of the Cypriot pioneer architects were studied in Europe; Cyprus was the incubator that has many architectural distinctive pieces of evidence of modern architecture. Perhaps the expert reader of the modern architectural discourse of Cyprus could distinguish numerous aesthetic features in Cyprus Buildings especially the private residences and their appearance is credited back to one of the pioneers of modern architecture; Le Corbusier. The research paper is an attempt to determine the influence of the principles that Le Corbusier claimed as keystones of modern architecture in early twenty century and how impressed on the emergence of aesthetic values of the modern architecture of Cyprus as well. The paper takes two works of Neoptolemos Michaelides, as case study (Neoptolemos Michaelides is considered the father of Cyprus modern architecture). The first case study is his and wife private residence, which considers the icon of the modern residential architecture of Cyprus and the other is the first residential project designed by him Theotodos Kanthos residence.

Museums are nowadays among the most popular projects for the public, the concept of thermal comfort in museums is often treated after the realization. Even if in the design, the architect shows a particular intention to work with daylight which is considered for these projects as main, the architect often considers certain elements that have an influence on the energy balance of these projects such as: orientation, building materials. The museum route is the key to the success of any museum project, it is the space of the visitor, the space in which he is invaded by sensations. In this study, we will first evaluate the thermal comfort in the museum as a whole (building) and then through its route. The objective is to guide reflection in the design of the museum towards the route in order to reduce energy consumption. In order to carry out our study, some European museums were analysed by means of simulation, according to the thermal comfort of their designs for the most unfavourable conditions, then by a thermal analysis of the museum route according to the segmentation principle using the average radiant temperature. This method allowed us to bring out correspondences between the architectural form and the route. Finally, the segmentation method constitutes the basis of a new methodological approach called "thermal topology" based on the discontinuities of the temperatures in the route.
Pier Luigi Nervi challenged the notion that unconventional construction would be economically prohibitive. His innovative construction method, the 'Nervi System' - discovered through experimentation in the late 1930s and used in subsequent applications in the late 1940s - crucially combined processes of Structural Prefabrication and the material of his own invention: Ferro-Cemento - a light, resilient reinforced concrete – and so became standard technology in his practice. His control of the building process exceeded construction and structural motives and he was able to use it to display convincing synchronicity between aesthetics and structure. The Palazzetto Dello Sport for the 1960 Olympics was this typology’s finest expression and so too of Nervi’s ideals.
1. Who we are - profile of the office
The activity as architect of Saki Digenis has as starting line Rome where he begins his
studies. Already from his first steps he has the chance to be next to leading architects
who in that period were placing the bases for the development of modern architecture
and from whom was professionally influenced. He maintained a professional office in
Rome; also he worked as researcher in the Institute of Urban planning in the University
of Rome and participated in the inquiring team of Institute Architectural composition,
under the guidance of prof L.Quaroni, on the subject: "TOWN DESIGN - RESEARCH
IN THE SCALE BETWEEN URBAN PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE - PROBLEMS
OF METHODOLOGY". In the middle of decade 1970 he founds in Athens the office
Architectural and Urban Studies "SAKIS DIGENIS and COLLABORATORS", which
extend also his activity study in a lot of sectors of the architectural and urban planning.
At the same time with the multifaceted studing activity, he develops social activity in
the Association of Architects, where served as well as his Vice-president and also for
several years as member of the administrative council. During his service he placed
the bases in order to change the bulletin of Association in an architectural magazine
with requirements of criticism and projection of architectural movement in Greece.
Important is also his contribution in the T.E.E. in the permanent committees of
international relations and residence. Due his knowledge he was for many years until
today member in the role of expert of the European Committee about architectural
issues (consultant committee). Because his particular experience on issues of
maintenance and reuse of buildings, for many years, he represented the T.E.E. in the
Central Council of Newer Monuments, enacted body of Minister of Culture. He was
also member of the legislative council for the redaction of the prescriptions for
the standards of the tourist complex buildings (hotel, furniture apartments, etc.)
in Greece.
Andreas Digenis(30-07-65) studies in the university of Milan architecture (Politecnico
di Milano). He follows the sector of architectural composition, completing his studies
under the guide of the professor E.Mantero. With professional experiences and
inquiring character, in the department of architectural composition of the University of
Milan, he completes after his 10 years of stay, the circle of studying and professional
experiences in Italy. He begins in 1994 his professional career in Athens with Sakis
Digenis, enriching the office with an organisational structure flexible and open to the
new technologies extending the possibilities of digital planning.
He founds the "3Δ Digenis" as development of the " Digenis workshop ", extending
the studying activity to all the sectors of the architectural and urban planning, serving
the beginning of "from the spoon to the city" (dal cucchiaio alla città!), that the architect
E.N.Rogers made manifesto of an entire generation of architects, propagating and
appearing through the periodical Casabella the modern architectural planning as a
completed process of human spirit and intellect and no simple building process.
These perceptions and places constitute the ideological base of the 3Δ Digenis office.
Sakis and Andreas Digenis are permanent members of the 3Δ Digenis office with the
role of designers and project managers of their own works and assignments.
Some of the most important projects they have designed in the last decade are: the
transformation in museum of the ex palace Mon Repos in Corfu - Restoration and
renovation of the National Theatre of Northerner Greece and the study on the
Municipal Theatre Veria (the first rooms with adaptable resonance system) -
Restoration of residence Koyntorioti in Hydra (reward Europa Nostra) - Restoration of

Digenis do organise the international collaboration with the office gregotti associati
international particularly with the architects Vittorio Gregotti-Augusto Cagnardi-
Michele Reginaldi gain the international competition project of recuperation and
reformation of the sea front from Faliro to Vouliagmeni, and as well the discrimination
in the architectural competition, with the same team we were pre-selected for the final
phase of the competition for the new archaeological museum of Patra. Major
principle of our office is at the same time, the professional activity, the continuous and
patient research, the exchange of experiences with laboratorial character
collaborations with architects in Greece and internationally with the purpose to
develop, in our country, the qualitative design in all the scales of the architectural and
urban planning.
For the 3Δ Digenis,
Yours sincerely,
Andrea Digenis
