M A S S I M I L I A N O D E C R I G N I S
I am a fresh architecture graduate currently working
towards getting my professional licence, which I plan
on doing by January 2020.
Architecture is my passion and it permeates every
part of my daily life, ambitions, and aspirations to
become a professional. While working on a project
of any scale I always take the utmost care in mak-
ing sure that the principles of clarity, simplicity and
usability are reflected in my work. To do that, I al-
ways start by analising the problem at hand, while
taking the designed program into consideration, to
make sure that space, scale and appearence of the de-
sign relate to the local context and culture through
the coherent use of materials, a critical approach to
environmental sustainability and use of appropriate
technologies.

Via dei Fori Imperiali has been the subject of a cultural
and administrative debate regarding the relationship
between history and modernity since its conception.
The temporal stratifications in the area causes an
evident fragmentation of space, which results in bad
urban fruition and historical comprehension.
The design aims to mend the ancient and modern
traces through an archaeological and urban recon-
nection through four main actions:
_Reconnect the Trajan’s Forum, the Augustus Forum,
the Nerva’s Forum and the Caesar’s Forum together,
in order to improve their fruition and historical un-
derstanding.
_Restore some urban routes belonging to the medi-
aevil city that had been lost with the archaeological
excavations of the nineteenth century.
_Return the spatial arrangement of the Fori on Via
dei Fori Imperiali through a redesign of the pavement
and greenery.
_Constitute a network of pedestrian connections and
service spaces capable of giving structure to the Cen-
tral Archaeological Area of Rome.

The project takes into consideration its urban context
with a design proportioned to its surroundings and
capable to enliven the area.
The building was designed to have public spaces and
retail at ground level, while the upper floors have
students accomodations and services such as study
rooms, laundry rooms and shared facilities.
The upper floors are connected by catwalks that span
over the public realm beneath, this way the private
and the pubblic areas of the building always interact
with each in intersting ways, but without mixing pri-
vate and social use. This configuration creates a lively
public space and a safe private housing.

The Alessandrino Civic Center hosts a variety of pub-
lic services and spaces: public offices, a restaurant, a
gym, a reading room on the upper floor and a basket-
ball field, a pool and a lecture hall on the ground floor.
The 3 functions that needed a high ceiling were put at
ground level and are mostly transparent, all the other
functions were located above them, in 4 “slabs” that
appear to float.
These “slabs” have mostly open plans with minimal
internal partitions, this way the program can have a
certain degree of versatility if necessary.

“EX-FIERA” MASTERPLAN, ROME
M S c F o u r t h s e m e s t e r p r o j e c t
The project site spans an area that covers 2 differ-
ent neighborhoods divided by a high traffic route and
various abandoned buildings, including the former
fair pavillions of Rome.
The main objective of the project was to connect the
two neighborhoods and to redevelop the abandoned
areas in order to establish new functions and rela-
tionships in this part of the city. To do so, 3 key ar-
eas where chosen in which to establish strong links
between the 2 neighborhoods: on Viale Giustiniano
Imperatore (1) Via Cristoforo Colombo was burried in
order to exted the city fabric on top of it. In (2) and (3)
pedestrian bridges were made to create a safe cross-
ing.

RESTORATION OF THE FORMER
BRANCACCIO HUNTING LODGE
B S c F i f t h s e m e s t e r p r o j e c t
This little building has had numerous stratification
during its history. Its basament is composed by ruins
of the baths of Trajan, in fact on its facades the origi-
nal opus latericium that composed the ancient roman
building can be seen.
During the Middle Ages these ruins had its first new
use: on top of them was erected a hunting lodge.
The latest layering goes back to 1930, when the ad-
ministration of restoration of Rome organized a ren-
ovation of the building. Nowdays it is being use as a
rest home for elders.
The aim of the project was to restore the building
from a structural standpoint.
