This document provides instructions on using a digital mixer and mics to record a drum kit. It discusses using four dynamic mics for the individual drums and two condenser mics as overheads to capture a wider frequency range. It recommends placing the overhead mics further away since they can't handle high sound pressure levels as close to the drums. It also discusses phase issues and recommends the XY technique for the overhead mics to eliminate phase problems by having the mics close together so sound arrives at the same time. Students are tasked with recording a video demonstrating how to mic a drum kit and explaining mic placement and type.
