Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory share similarities in Sheldon's stubborn personality and his mother's religious nature. 2. Existing Product The Big Bang TheoryThe Big Bang Theory is a US sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It mainly focuses on one subject (science) and focuses on a group of people
that works in different fields of the subject. The audience for the show is people who are interested in video games, science and board games. When
the show started, it focused on five people (Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard and Raj). As the show went on, it introduced new characters.
Leonard and Penny’s relationship is one of the biggest features of the show. It starts in the pilot episode. When they first appear together, Leonard
instantly likes penny. She doesn’t notice straight away, but later in the series she notices. As the series goes on, they have an on off relationship. When
they take a break from each other they go out with other people, but it’s easy to see they get jealous of each other. At the end of series 8, they both
marry.
Sheldon and Amy (known as shamy) met on a dating website, which Howard and Raj signed Sheldon up to. They both met in series 3. Amy is a ‘Mrs
Sheldon’ because she acts a lot like him at first, making them a good match. Amy considered Sheldon as a ‘kinda sorta boyfriend’ while Sheldon
considered Amy as ‘a girl who is his friend, but not his girlfriend’. It’s obvious their relationship was unconventional, then it slowly grows into a normal
relationship. Also, Amy’s personality changes as she turns into a more likeable person. They get married at the end of series 11.
Howard and Bernadette’s relationship is the fastest moving relationship in the show. Although they split up, the split doesn’t last long. Their
relationship has had all the milestones (dating, engagement, marriage and kids).
The show has guest starred lots famous people playing fiction characters of themselves. People like Stephen Hawking who often appeared when
Sheldon has a theory. William Shatner appeared when Will Wheaton has a celebrity game of dungeons and dragons., Carrie Fisher and James Earl
Jones appear when Sheldon.

Leonard is very content. At the start of the series, he fancies penny and they have on and off relationships. He gets jealous when penny starts
going out with another man.

Howard’s personality is very strange. He has a loud relationship with his mother because they shout at each other even if it’s about something
civil.
Character of Raj
Raj is very timid. He can’t talk to women unless he’s drunk. He’s very shy and nervous, but he later grows out of this and becomes more
confident.

Amy is introduced later in the series as a love interest for Sheldon. Her personality is a lot like Sheldon’s when she first appears, but as there
story goes on, she changes to a more likeable person.
Character of Bernadette
Bernadette is introduced later in the series as a love interest for Howard. Her personality is nice, but she can be strict when it comes to Howard
(e.g Oh boo-hoo you’re not going to space). She says this when Howard has the opportunity to go to space, but she disagrees.

Young Sheldon is a prequel to Big Bang Theory created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The show idea was
created by Jim Parsons (The actor of Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory). It focuses on what Sheldon is like as a
child.
The series is set in 1989 and follows Sheldon from the age of 9, when he lives with his family and starts going to
high school. The show features his twin sister Missy, older brother Georgie, his mum and dad and his grandma
(who he calls Meemaw). His friends and family have to cope with his unique and stubborn personality.
The show guest stars Professor Proton which is Sheldon’s favourite TV show and favourite person when he
grows up. When the show is on, he won’t let anyone watch anything else.

The Big Bang Theory is more modern, whereas Young Sheldon is set in older times because it tells the story of how Sheldon grew
up.
Although Meemaw loves her grandchildren, in Young Sheldon, she doesn’t like having a responsibility and isn’t bothered with the
way people act. In The Big Bang Theory, she loves and cares for Sheldon, but is strict and likes everyone to be polite.
Young Sheldon uses non-diegetic sound because Jim Parsons narrates every episode describing how Sheldon is growing up. The
Big Bang Theory doesn’t have a narrator because the character is easy to understand.
In Young Sheldon, there’s no laughter in the background whereas there is in the Big Bang Theory.
In Young Sheldon, music is played in the background at the start and end of each scene, letting the audience know they’re moving
onto something else. In The Big Bang Theory, a sound effect is played when they move onto different scenes.
The Big Bang Theory uses scientific graphics when moving to each scene. In Young Sheldon, they move from scene to scene
straight away.
Young Sheldon features Sheldon’s dad, whereas The Big Bang Theory doesn’t feature him because he died between Sheldon’s
child hood and adult life.

10. Allo AlloAllo Allo is a British sitcom created by David Croft. It’s set in Nouvion, German occupied France. Café owner Rene and his team have to look
after the painting of ‘The fallen Madonna’ until after the war, then the Germans will keep it for themselves. As well as having to hide two
British airmen from the French resistance. As part of the plans, they use a radio in the bedroom to keep in contact with England, letting them
know where the British airmen are. The resistance are helped out by Officer Crabtree, a British spy dressed as a French policeman. They send
him out because he can speak French, but actually can’t speak French because whenever he says good morning, it comes out as ‘good
moaning’.

Rene is very sarcastic and doesn’t put up with nonsense. He’s having affair with several women behind his wife’s back and is trying to keep
them a secret.

Edith is very jealous and worries that Rene is having an affair whenever he’s near a woman. She’s very strict and slightly stubborn.

Officer Crabtree is the undercover policeman for the British airmen, and the ‘English idiot who cannot speak French’. His famous catchphrase
is ‘good moaning’ meaning good morning. He’s brainless when it comes to speaking ‘French’ but when he’s in a situation, he uses his brain.

Michelle is very strict and likes everyone to listen to her ‘only once’. She’s very good at working in different disguises.

Mimi is a trier – she works hard at anything she has to do. She comes up with good (ish) ideas which Rene usually disapproves of. She doesn’t

12. Fawlty Towers
Fawlty Towers is a British sitcom set in Torquay. The series broadcast between 1975-1979, making two series, six episodes in each. The show was created by
John Cleese and Connie Booth, who were married when they made the first series but divorced in the second one.
The show focuses around hotelier Basil Fawlty and his wife Sybil as well as there employees Manuel who is the Spanish waiter and Polly who is there maid.
In the second series they introduce Terry who is the chef. Basil tries to make the hotel a better place, but because of his own mistakes and mistakes of
others, he doesn’t manage to.
The humour comes in when Basil is being over aggressive and makes a situation bigger than what it is. This mainly happens when the guests come to stay
because he ends up being at there beck and call most of the time.
The show has guessed starred people like Bernard Cribbins who plays an arrogant and high maintenance character. This character gets on Basil’s nerved the
most throughout the series.
Basil Fawlty
Basil is a rude and tense person to be around. He has a very sarcastic sense of humour which is uses at inapropritarte moments.
Sybil Fawlty
Sybil is bossy, but she can control the hotel more than Basil can because she’s polite and can talk to the customers without letting them wind her up.
Manuel
Manuel is the Spanish waiter. He gets very confused easily because he doesn’t understand English. He tries to do good things, but when he’s in a situation it
goes from bad to worse very easily (e.g. When there going to do a fire drill and he sets the kitchen on fire)

Major is a resident of the hotel and has a good friendship with Basil. He’s another character that gets confused because he can talk about one thing and it
can change instantly to something else, and someone has to correct him.

Polly is a reasonable person. When Basil gets annoyed when dealing with a guest, she can calm him down.

14. Mrs Browns Boys
Mrs Browns Boys is an Irish sitcom created and written by Brendan O’Carroll who plays Mrs Brown. Although the show is set in Ireland, it’s actually filmed in Scotland. The show was so successful
they made three series between 2011-2013, a movie which released in 2014, a live episode in 2016 and chat show ‘All Round to Mrs Browns’ in 2017. They still make two episodes of Mrs Browns
Boys each year which air on Christmas Day and New Years Day. All of the shows include outtakes which they leave in.
The show focuses on a matriarch who interferes in her friends and families lives. Her family and friends don’t like it when she interferes because she unintentionally makes the situation worse.
The show was originally called Mrs Browne’s Boys and aired on RTE 2 FM (an Irish radio station) in 1992.

Mrs Brown is shameless , rude and witty, and gets away with anything. She says what she thinks. Although her attitude towards the other characters isn’t nice, she does care about them and tries
to help them when they need it. She also has a very dirty mind.
Winnie
Winnie is easily fooled and takes jokes to seriously leading onto double entendres (e.g she asks Mr Foley for a quickie when she really means quiche).
Cathy
Cathy is very sensitive and a no-nonsense kind of person. She laughs at jokes when it’s appropriate, but takes certain situations seriously. She has a very short fuse, and doesn’t like being left
out.
Mark
Mark is the smartest and most sensible person in the show. She’s Mrs Browns favourite son because he can stand on his own two feet and can handle his own life himself.
Rory
Rory is very high maintenance and sensitive. He jumps to the wrong conclusion very easily. He can’t take a joke and thinks they are insults towards him. Mrs Brown finds him very difficult to
handle because of the way he behaves.
Dino
Dino is very sensitive. He doesn’t like being blamed for anything – he thinks everything isn’t his fault.
Dermot
Dermot is very hard working and reliable. He’s Mrs Browns second favourite son and finds him very easy to talk to.
Maria
Maria is another hard working person. She’s very kind and considerate towards people.

Radio comedy has been made mainly by the BBC. A number of British

Although most popular comedy shows started on the radio, there has
been a lot of successful series on TV (e.g Mrs Brown’s Boys). British
comedy normally has six episodes a series, and a series is broadcast
once or twice a year.

• I did an experiment trying to remake a scene from The Big Bang Theory. I
filmed the lift door shutting, then added the footage to premiere pro. I
found an exploding effect on YouTube, downloaded and added it to
premiere pro. I cut the green screen out using key colour and colour
tolerance. I moved the colour tolerance up 187 which cut the green screen
out completely. If I set it to 255 it distorted the effect.
• It would have been better if the effect was at the bottom of the screen
because you can see a definite square in the centre of the picture when I
cut the green screen down.

• I filmed the lift doors shutting from the inside because I
wanted to see the ‘impact’ from the inside. I downloaded
another green screen explosion from YouTube, and found a
black starry image on the internet.
• I added all footage to premiere pro and cut the green screen
out by moving the colour tolerance to 205. I cut the lift noises
out by unlinking the sound from the footage.
• I’m not happy with the way it finished because there’s a
square in the scene when I cut the green screen. I will
research how to get the shape out if it’s possible.

I downloaded two Big Bang Theory scenes from YouTube. I cut the first scene down to the
part where Bernadette says she’s pregnant, then cut the season 12 trailer down to Howards
funny reaction. I added a reverb so when he shouts ‘NOOOOO!’ for the last time it echo's. I
added audio gain by 25db because when it was set to the original reverb, it was too quiet.

36. Practical Research
I asked two class mates to be in this experiment. I used the tripod to make the camera steady. I added
the footage to premiere pro and cut it down to necessary bits. I added a green screen explosion, and cut
it down with Chroma key and turning the colour tolerance up to cut the green screen out. I added a
smoke effect for after the explosion. I cut the black background out using colour tolerance, turning it up
to 255.
I’m happy with this experiment, but the only thing that lets it down is the square where the green screen
has been. The flames and smoke only flow within the shape. It would have been better if it could flow
across the whole screen making it more effective.
The solution is to research how to get rid of that shape, or, shoot the scene to the size and framing of the
green screen clip.

37. Practical ResearchI made a DVD front cover experiment. I used the spot removal tool to remove unwanted
marks from the actors faces. Then I used the polygon lasso tool to remove the backdrop
background. I used the paint bucket to make the background red.
I’m happy with the way this experiment went, but for the real thing, I will try adding
more effects to make it better.

I decided to do a font experiment because I want to make a DVD front cover/poster, and wanted
to see which fonts stood out, looked appealing and which were easy to read. I used fonts from
Photoshop and design fonts from flamingtext.com.
I’m happy with this experiment, but it would have been better if I put every font on the
experiment poster. This would make it easier to decide which font to use.
