Public fascination with the architectural and archaeological heritage is well known, it is proven to be one of the main reasons for tourism according to the UN World Tourism Organisation. Historic buildings and archaeological monuments form a significant component Europe’s cultural heritage; they are the physical testimonies of European history and of the di°erent events that led to the creation of the European landscape, as we know it today.
The documentation of built heritage increasingly avails of 3D scanning and other remote sensing technologies, which produces digital replicas in an accurate and fast way. Such digital models have a large range of uses, from the conservation and preservation of monuments to the communication of their cultural value to the public. They may also support in-depth analysis of their architectural and artistic features as well as allow the production of interpretive reconstructions of their past appearance.
The goal of the 3D-ICONS project, funded under the European Commission’s ICT Policy Support Programme which builds on the results of CARARE (www.carare.eu) and 3D-COFORM (www.3d-coform.eu), is to provide Europeana with 3D models of architectural and archaeological monuments of remarkable cultural importance. The project brings together 16 partners (see appendix 2) from across Europe (11 countries) with relevant expertise in 3D modelling and digitization. The main purpose of this project is to produce around 4000 accurate 3D models which have to be processed into a simplified form in order to be visualized on low end personal computers and on the web.

Quality criteria for architectural 3D data in usage and preservation processeslindlar
Quality assessment of digital material has been just one of the new tasks the digital revolution brought into the library domain. With the first big print material digitization
efforts in the digital heritage domain dating back to the 1980ies, plenty of experience has been gathered and recommendations on best-practise published. Along the same line, libraries of today may often publish guidelines on formats or quality parameters for digital textual materials which enter their holdings.
While digital texts such as e-journals are in common use today, non-textual materials of various domains are just entering the holdings of cultural heritage institutions. An
example for this is architectural data, which is of interest to a variety of libraries and archives – ranging from special collection libraries, such as the RIBA Library of the
Royal Institute of British Architects, to national archives responsible for the archival of information about publically funded buildings. Architectural practise of today
commonly includes 3D object processing. The output of these processes is slowly reaching the aforementioned cultural heritage institutions which are now facing the task
of quality assessment of the material.
The presentation will present a first analysis of potential quality factors and compare architectural and cultural heritage domain expectations in 3D data quality. It will look at two forms of 3D data: modelled 3D objects and scanned 3D objects. The work presented in this presentation is based on work conducted in the ongoing EU FP-7 DURAARK project.

Data enrichment is vital for leveraging heterogeneous data sources in various business analyses, AI applications, and data-driven services. Knowledge Graphs (KGs) support the enrichment of heterogeneous data sources by making entities first-class citizens: links to entities help interconnect heterogeneous data pieces or even ease access to external data sources to eventually augment the original data. Data annotation algorithms to find and link entities in reference KGs, as well as to identify out-of-KG entities have been proposed and applied to different types of data, such as tables, and texts. However, despite recent progress in annotation algorithms, the output of these algorithms does not always meet the quality requirements that make the enriched data valuable in downstream applications. As a result, semantic data enrichment remains an effort-consuming and error-prone task. In this seminar, we discuss the relationships between annotation algorithms, data enrichment, and KG construction, highlighting challenges and open problems. In addition, we advocate for a native human-in-the-loop perspective that enables users to control the outcome of the enrichment and, eventually, improve the quality of the enriched data. We focus in particular on the annotation and enrichment of tabular data and briefly discuss the application of a similar paradigm to the enrichment of textual data in the legal domain, e.g., on court decisions and criminal investigation documents.

SCAPE Webinar: Tools for uncovering preservation risks in large repositoriesSCAPE Project
This presentation origins from a webinar presented by Luís Faria. The webinar presents the SCAPE developed tools Scout and C3PO and demonstrates how to identify preservation risks in your content and, at the same time, share your content profile information with others to open new opportunities.
Scout, the preservation watch system, centralizes all the necessary knowledge on the same platform, cross-referencing this knowledge to uncover all preservation risks. Scout automatically fetches information from several sources to populate its knowledge base. For example, Scout integrates with C3PO to get large-scale characterization profiles of content. Furthermore, Scout aims to be a knowledge exchange platform, to allow the community to bring together all the necessary information into the system. The sharing of information opens new opportunities for joining forces against common problems.
The webinar was held 26 June 2014.

The INSPIRE Implementing Rules (IRs) on interoperability of spatial data sets and services and for network services include requirements for setting up a Spatial Data Infrastructure in Europe for supporting environmental policy making as well as policies with impact on the environment. To help Data provider with technical aspects of the IRs as well as with its correct implementation, INSPIRE Technical Guidelines (TG) were developed for each 34 data themes (INSPIRE data specifications) and for the different types of INSPIRE network services (discovery, view, download and transformation).
Spatial objects are mapped, digitalized and stored in a GIS data sets or (spatial) database. Normally, the structure of the data will depend on the specific needs for which the data are collected and used. In order to provide them in compliance with INSPIRE, these source data sets have to be transformed to match the data model prescribed by INSPIRE and have to be provided through INSPIRE download services.
This training will show and illustrate through "hands on" exercises how data sets can be transformed and provided through INSPIRE-compliant services by covering the following topics:
1) Data transformation: This session gives an introduction and explanations about encoding rules, mapping original attributes into the INSPIRE data models and vocabularies and extending data models and vocabularies.
2) Download services: This session will explore the procedure of providing transformed dataset into through an INSPIRE network service, e.g. through an WMS (for view services) or WFS or ATOM feeds (download services).
3) "Hands on" session: This session will give an overview of different architectural approaches (e.g. on-the-fly transformation and stand-alone offline transformation) and concrete software solutions for transforming spatial data and creating INSPIRE-compliant services.

Combining the outcomes of CARARE and 3D-COFORM, Andrea D'Andrea
1. Combining the outcomes of CARARE
and 3D-COFORM to capture in 3D,
store, manage and retrieve the

Task 6.1 … extension to the CARARE schema to support provenance, and
London charter paradata required for quality assurance of 3D models
Provenance = metadata describing entities and process
involved in producing of the 3D objects
London charter Paradata = metadata describing the
rationale/motivation behind the 3d data-acquisition process
For the provenance = CRMdig (extension of CIDOC-CRM)
For London charter Paradata = CIDOC-CRM
WP6. SCOPE
3. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission‘s CIP ICT PSP programme
Information about human processes of understanding
and interpretation of data objects. Examples of
paradata include descriptions stored within a
structured dataset of how evidence was used to
interpret an artifact, or a comment on methodological
premises within a research publication.
It is closely related, but somewhat different in
emphasis, to "contextual metadata", which tend to
communicate interpretations of an artifact or
collection, rather than the process through which one
or more artifacts were processed or interpreted.

CARARE SCHEMA
CARARE record is focused on a heritage asset and its relations to digital
resources, activities and to collection information. The top level elements in a
CARARE record are:
CARARE Wrap – The CARARE schema wrap, it wraps one or many CARARE
records.
CARARE – The CARARE start element. It wraps the Heritage Asset with the other
information resources (Collection information, Digital Resource and Activity):
Heritage asset – holds the metadata for a monument, including
descriptive and administrative metadata. Zero or one.
Digital resource – holds the metadata about a digital resource. One or
more.
Collection information – holds the collection-level description. Zero or
more.
Activity – holds the metadata about an event or activity. Zero or more.
