I was tasked with using marshmallows and toothpicks to construct 3D shapes and record the results. By visualizing the shapes in my head and referring to clues, I built models of a pentagonal pyramid, hexagonal pyramid, octagonal prism, pentagonal prism, square pyramid, and cube, noting the number of faces, edges, and vertices of each. While it was enjoyable to identify faces on 3D objects, constructing them with food items was challenging and left me with sticky fingers. This experience increased my understanding of 3D shapes but also revealed areas for further investigation, such as 2D nets.
