Actual Plan
• Find the points that we must mark out on the
floor ( see calculations)
• Mark out the points on the floor using a ruler
to measure the distance and tape to mark it.
• Take the stopwatch and walk across all the
points. Time taken for one point to another
adjacent point must be one second.
• Information given :
Acceleration per second = 0.50 m/s^2
Acceleration is the rate of increase of
velocity.
Velocity is the rate of change of
displacement.
• We assume that the starting velocity of the
student is at 0.50m/s
• Since we have assumed the starting velocity,
we are able to calculate the velocity of the
student in the following seconds.
• The velocity will be as follows :
1st sec : 0.50m/s
2nd sec : 1.00m/s
3rd sec :1.50m/s
4th sec : 2.00m/s
5th sec :2.50m/s
• The data will give us 5 seconds of speed data,
with each second of different speed. Since
each period must be completed within a
timing of one second, we can calculate the
distance of each interval using the formula :
– Distance = Speed*Time
• With the intervals set, we have a gauge of the
speed we can roughly go.
• We should complete each interval in only the
time of one second, trying to do so with as
much of a constant speed as possible.
• Sources of error
• Random Error
– However, our method is unable to totally emit
error. The student is bound to travel at a different
speed throughout each interval and this will cause
an inaccuracy in the graph drawn by the Tracker
software.
– To reduce this error, we can repeat the
experiment several times, getting the best fit line
between the best fit lines of all the tests.
• Systematic error
– There might be systemic ruler due to the meter
rule used to measure the distance between
intervals. An inaccuracy of the meter rule can
cause inaccuracy in the results.
– This can be omitted by comparing the meter rule
to many different meter rules to find the
difference in error. It can be ommited from the
results thorugh calculation or by retrying the
experiment with the correct measurements again

  • 5. • The velocity will be as follows : 1st sec : 0.50m/s 2nd sec : 1.00m/s 3rd sec :1.50m/s 4th sec : 2.00m/s 5th sec :2.50m/s
  • 6. • The data will give us 5 seconds of speed data, with each second of different speed. Since each period must be completed within a timing of one second, we can calculate the distance of each interval using the formula : – Distance = Speed*Time
  • 7. • With the intervals set, we have a gauge of the speed we can roughly go. • We should complete each interval in only the time of one second, trying to do so with as much of a constant speed as possible.
  • 8. • Sources of error • Random Error – However, our method is unable to totally emit error. The student is bound to travel at a different speed throughout each interval and this will cause an inaccuracy in the graph drawn by the Tracker software. – To reduce this error, we can repeat the experiment several times, getting the best fit line between the best fit lines of all the tests.
  • 9. • Systematic error – There might be systemic ruler due to the meter rule used to measure the distance between intervals. An inaccuracy of the meter rule can cause inaccuracy in the results. – This can be omitted by comparing the meter rule to many different meter rules to find the difference in error. It can be ommited from the results thorugh calculation or by retrying the experiment with the correct measurements again
