8. Step 4: 2D Sketch
Common Shortcuts
•L is for Line
•R is for Rectangle
•C is for Circle (Centre-diameter style)
•D is for Dimension
9. Step 5: 3D Create
Common Shortcuts
•E is for Extrude
•You can also create simple 3D shapes directly
10. Step 6: Modify
Common Shortcuts
•Q is for Press/Pull
•F is for Fillet
•M is for Move
11. Understanding
Construction Planes
Construction planes tell the computer
where you want to draw your 2D sketches
• 3 are auto-generated (X, Y and Z-planes)
• All flat surfaces of bodies can be made
• Some you have to define using
“Construct” tools
12. Understanding
History Bar
History bar allows you to revisit your
design at any step in the past
• Bar is found at the bottom
• Each major step has its own icon
• When editing a 2D Sketch, remember to
click “Stop Sketch” to continue time-
traveling…
13. Step 7: Export for Print
In your Browser
1. Under “Bodies”
2. Right-click the 3D body to export
3. Left-click “Export to STL”
4. Import the STL file into your 3D printer
14. Fusion 360
1-2-3
Basic workflow is Sketch (2D), Create (3D), Modify
• You sketch 2D designs (Sketches) on a C-plane
• You create 3D objects (Bodies) from Sketches
• You can Modify 3D objects
Other useful info
• C-planes are automatically generated
• But you can define them manually too for more accuracy
• History bar allows you to edit any step in your design
• Time Travel can have unforeseen consequences…
• Export for 3D printing is a simple right-click option
19. Substitute
• What other product or process could you use?
• What rules could you substitute?
• Can you use this product as a substitute for
something else?
20. Combine
• What would happen if you
combined this product with
another?
• What if you combined functions,
purposes?
21. Adapt
• How could you adapt this product
to serve another use?
• What else is the product like?
(What else is like your product?)
• What other products/ideas could
you use for inspiration
22. Modify
• How could you change the shape, look or feel
of your product?
• What could you add to modify this product?
• What could you emphasize or highlight to
create more value?
23. Put to Another
Use
• Can you use this product
somewhere else?
• Who else could use this product?
• How would this product behave
differently in another setting?
24. Eliminate
• How could you streamline or
simplify this product?
• What features, parts or rules could
you eliminate?
• What could you understate or
tone down?
The simplest cup…
…is no cup.
25. Reverse
• What would happen if you
reversed this process?
• What if you changed the order
of doing things?
• How could you reorganize this
product?
