- 1. As we begin the second marking period of the school year, the skills below will be the focus in our classroom. Please practice any skill that your child may need some extra practice. Knows birthday, telephone number and days of the week. Letter identification, letter sounds and a word for each. High Frequency words (the new yellow and blue list) Writes decodable words (three letter words that use sounds we have learned) Counts to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. Sorts objects into groups and states rule Prints first and last name, letters of the alphabet and 0-9 Blends letter sounds into words Retells simple stories Use the reading homework to practice skills such as listening, comprehension and retelling the characters/setting/problem and solution.
