  • 7. Damiana da Cunha  1-Born around 1804  2-Where, on the ‘Plateau of Goias , then she would move to Sao Jose.  3-She was a Brazilian Indian, the grand daughter of Chief Angrai- oxa  4-She became trained in many field that men couldn’t do, and hade training far beyond that of any other non-white women of that time.  5-She was a Slave, but also a teacher, missionary, mediator, frontiers woman, and an expedition leader  6- Her balance in the book is like Ms. Carrillo of the first slide. She was a woman ahead of her time. Yes she became a slave, but she was very valuable to the Spanish trying to settle and area like New Mexico. They could not have done it peaceably with out her and her contacts with the Indians on the Plateau. She was in the right place at the right time, and used it for herself and people merging into the new world, after 50yrs of war against the Europeans. Her EDU was her armor, she wore it well. She is also one of the longest essays of women in the book.
