Prediction of kabaddi playing ability from selected anthropometrical and phys...iaemedu
This document summarizes a study that aimed to predict kabaddi playing ability from selected anthropometric and physical variables among college-level players. 144 male kabaddi players aged 18-28 were assessed for anthropometric measurements like height, weight, and limb lengths. Physical fitness tests included speed, flexibility, leg strength, muscular power and endurance. Playing ability was subjectively assessed by coaches. Correlation analysis found playing ability significantly correlated with speed and leg strength. Regression analysis identified leg strength, muscular power, speed, leg length and arm length as the best predictors of playing ability, accounting for 87% of the variance. The study concluded that kabaddi requires qualities like strength, speed, endurance and coordination
1) Bilateral and unilateral isometric squat strength assessments were reliable measures for youth athletes and improved with maturation. Bilateral strength predicted change-of-direction (COD) performance over short distances, while unilateral strength predicted longer COD courses.
2) Acute turn-around time (4mTAT) was useful for assessing COD performance but not as a standalone test. As maturation and COD course distances increased, correlations between COD performance and isometric strength also increased.
3) Researchers examined relationships between isometric squat strength, COD performance, and maturation in youth athletes over different COD course lengths and distances. Bilateral and unilateral strength improved with maturation and better predicted longer COD courses.
This study analyzed the activity profiles of elite amateur boxers across three weight categories (46-56 kg, 60-75 kg, 81-91+ kg) at the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships. The bouts were coded using Dartfish software to record punch types, targets, and outcomes. While there were no significant differences in punch output between winners and losers across weight categories, punch efficiency was found to be higher for heavy weight winners compared to light and middle weight losers. The results provide a profile of punch types and efficiencies within different weight categories that can inform future training approaches tailored to a boxer's specific weight class.

This study analyzed the biomechanics of different throwing techniques in cricket. Sixty elite cricket players performed underarm, sidearm, and overhead throws at distances of 30 meters with a 45 degree approach angle. Their motions were recorded with high-speed video cameras. Joint angles, velocities, and ball velocity/accuracy were analyzed across the different techniques and throwing angles. Results showed significant differences in the kinematic measures between techniques, with overhead throws generally demonstrating higher ball velocities. A positive correlation was found between ball velocity and accuracy for some underarm and overhead throws, but not consistently across all conditions. The study provides insight into how biomechanics influence throwing performance in cricket.

Thirty-two male and nineteen female Division III collegiate ice hockey players participated in a study examining the relationship between various off-ice performance measures (20-yard dash, 40-yard dash, pro-agility test, M-test) and on-ice performance measures of speed and agility. The study found significant relationships between the 20-yard, 40-yard dash, and M-test performed off-ice and on-ice for male athletes, but no significant relationships between off-ice and on-ice performance measures for female athletes. The findings suggest certain off-ice performance measures can be useful for training linear skating skills during off-season periods for male athletes when ice access is limited.

This study examined the relationship between anterior glenohumeral laxity and proprioception in 30 asymptomatic collegiate baseball players. Anterior glenohumeral laxity was measured using an arthrometer and proprioception was assessed by measuring active joint position sense at various shoulder rotations. Linear regression analyses showed no relationship between anterior laxity and proprioception at 30 degrees of internal and external rotation. However, there was a moderate positive relationship between anterior laxity and proprioception at 75 degrees of external rotation, suggesting that proprioception decreases as anterior laxity increases at this position.
The document summarizes two experiments: 1) A fitness experiment that observed the effect of 10 weeks of jump squats on muscle response. It found improvements in vertical jump height, speed, and power. Flexibility also slightly increased. 2) A microarray experiment that observed the effect of H2O2 on cells. It found cells upregulated genes involved in oxidoreductase pathways and downregulated genes for apoptosis and signaling not involved in oxidoreductase. Both experiments showed the body and cells can adapt to and defend against external and internal stresses.

This study aimed to determine the intrarater reliability of manual muscle testing (MMT) and hand-held dynametric muscle testing (DMT) by having a physical therapist perform both types of tests on the same muscle groups for 11 patients on two separate occasions. The results found high correlation coefficients between tests for most muscle groups with both MMT and DMT, indicating that both methods demonstrate reliability under the conditions of this study. However, some limitations exist for each testing method.
The relationship among isometric grip strength recovery and anthropometric pa...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Grip strength has a specific role in ergonomics especially for hand tool using. In ergonomics a hand tool must be designed such a way that provide a better fit for the user, hence it reduces the risk of potential injuries associated with the use of hand tool. Grip strength decreases in repetitive hand activities, and that it will recover after an adequate rest period. This paper presents the relationship between isometric grip strength and recovery in addition to the influence of potential anthropometric factors on grip strength. 20 male and 20 female subject’s age range from 20 to 51 years were selected in order to evaluate dominant hand grip strengths. Factors assessed for potential association with grip strength were; demographics such as age and gender; body constructs such as height and weight; upper extremity such as the linear dimensions of elbow to wrist length, hand length and hand breadth. Linear regression analysis was performed in order to identify influencing factors independently associated with grip strength. Pearson product correlation was performed to identify the nature of relationship between isometric grip strength and anthropometric parameters. Through descriptive statistics based on greatest mean grip strength, optimal handle position has been found in position-3 (3.5 cm) for male and position-2 (3.0 cm) for female. Mean grip strength of male has been found greater than female. Grip strengths of male and female in dominant hands are found to decrease with aging, and are significantly different between male and female. Z-test indicates that there are no significant differences on the rate of recovery at each point in time between groups. Linear regression analysis indicates that weight and hand breadth in male; age and weight in female have a significant effect on grip strength.

This study investigated the effects of timing of omega-3 supplementation on reducing delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) following resistance exercise. Twelve males were randomly assigned to supplement with omega-3 either before (PRE-EX) or after (POST-EX) a heavy resistance exercise protocol designed to induce muscle damage. Assessments of muscle soreness, strength loss, swelling and range of motion were performed at various time points up to 96 hours post-exercise. Preliminary results found that PRE-EX supplementation showed lower muscle soreness ratings and a trend for less swelling compared to POST-EX, suggesting omega-3 may be more effective at reducing DOMS symptoms when taken before exercise.
This study examined the effects of statin use on functional mobility and flexibility in 16 healthy masters swimmers aged 55-75 years old, with 7 taking statins and 9 not taking statins. While most functional mobility tests showed no significant differences, the statin group had significantly less shoulder flexibility compared to the non-statin group. As expected, total cholesterol and LDL levels were significantly lower in the statin group, confirming the drugs' effectiveness in lowering cholesterol. The authors concluded that while statins lower cholesterol, they may adversely impact flexibility, especially in the extremities.

Correlation of Sergeant Jump & Squats Tests Performance of Basketballers with...Premier Publishers
This study deals with the assessment of leg strength by sergeant jump test and squats test & its correlation with leg measurements and energy intake among young girls and boys undergoing regular basketball training (age: 10-15 yrs, n=400). Players were selected from leading basketball training clubs of Nagpur city, Maharashtra. Foot width, foot length, thigh circumference, calf circumference & ankle circumference were measured using a measuring tape. Leg strength of basketballers was evaluated by means of fitness tests such as sergeant jump test and squats test. Energy intake data was collected by 24 hour’s dietary recall method for consecutive three days. For the present study, both null hypothesis (H0) & non directional alternative hypothesis (H1) were formulated. The difference was tested at both 0.01 & 0.05 levels of significance. Correlations were derived using Pearson’s product moment coefficient of correlation. Basketballers possessed significantly wider & longer feet than standards for age & gender. Effect of age on three leg circumferences (thigh, calf & ankle) was found to be strong, with older girls & boys showed significantly (p<0.01) larger mean thigh, calf & ankle circumference than younger girls & boys. Although basketballers were regular in their daily meal timings, they failed to meet the daily requirements of energy intake. Older basketballers surpassed the younger basketballers with respect to the mean vertical distance jumped. All groups of basketballers were rated excellent for their mean performance of squats test. Leg anthropometry correlated positively with vertical jump & squats test performance of basketballers. Regular basketball training at young age should be coupled with recommended intake of energy to ensure leg strength.

The Golden Group is over. Can a new group step up? Two years ago, Kevin De Bruyne plunged Belgium’s Euro 2024 plans into disorder when he claimed the team was “too old” to win in an interview with The Protector. That Belgian squad had 10 players over 30 and the maximum average age of any Euro Cup 2024 team at the competition. A group-stage exit and just one goal at the World Cup put Belgium on course for a restructure.

Coach Domenico Tedesco has managed a tactical shakeup and a regular exit for some of the oldest players. Experienced bests remain, not least the 37-year-old Jan Vertonghen in defense, the 32-year-old De Bruyne himself in midfield, and 31-year-old Romelu Lukaku up visible.
Still, younger actors like De Bruyne’s Manchester City partner Jeremy Doku bring fresh vitality to the team. Euro Cup Germany Qualifying unbeaten with just four goals allowed from eight games was a welcome sign of accomplishment back on track under Tedesco.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to establish a relationship between selected variables of physical
characteristics and the level of performance of male badminton players. 20 male badminton players who
represented State Badminton Championship were selected as the subjects for the study. The age of the
selected subjects were ranged from 20 to 27 years of age. Arm strength, leg strength, agility, spine
flexibility and wrist flexibility were taken as the variables of physical characteristics. Level of performance
was recognized as the playing ability of the players. Rogers’s formula was employed to estimate the arm
strength of the selected subjects. Leg Strength of the subjects was taken by leg dynamometer to the nearest
kilogram. To measure the agility of the subjects 4× yards shuttle run was administered and time was
10
recorded to the nearest 1/10th of a second. Spine and wrist flexibility of the subjects was taken by
flexomeasure with yard stick and it was recorded to the nearest inches. For determining the level of
performance of the players they were asked to participate in a series of three matches, seven points each.
The fixture of the matches was drawn on the basis of lottery system. The level of badminton performers
were categorized on the basis of players’ performance which was evaluated and rated by a panel of three
experts on the court during the matches on a 10 points likert type rating scale having score from 1 to 10
points. Some more addition points were awarded according to the results of the matches i.e. 5 points for
winning and 2 points for losing the match. The Person’s Product Moment Coefficient of correlation was
computed to determine the relationship between badminton performance and selected variables of physical
characteristics. The results of this study indicated that there is a significant relationship between agility and
wrist flexibility a variable of physical characteristics and level of performance where as an in significant
relationship were observed between arm length, leg length and spine flexibility the variables of physical
characteristics and level of performance at 0.05 level of confidence. The finding indicates that agility and
flexibility of wrist of the subjects were important variables for better performance in Badminton.

1. Introduction
Among the indoor games, badminton occupies a place of pride both as an individual as well as team sport
inspite of frequent changes that have occurred in various aspects of competition pertained to the game
including, fitness level, skills, strategies and tactics. Scientific pedagogies and innovative approach have

made the game more performance oriented than ever before.
Sports performance is based in a complex and intricate diversity of variables, which include physical
(general & specific conditions), psychological (personality & motivation) sociological and physical
characteristics (body morphology, anthropometry & body composition) factors (Campos et al., 2009). In
games and sports different factors play a significant role in determining the performance level. However,
great importance is assigned to biomechanical, psychological, physiological parameters in competitive
sports.
For improving the performance of badminton players it is important to identify the specific traits and
parameters, which contribute to the playing ability. Several studies have been conducted to find out the
parameters required for badminton skill performance.
Badminton being a highly explosive sport, involves a unique movement technique and strength over a
relatively small court area. The match is won normally by a perfect amalgam of physical condition, mental
attitude, courage, intelligence and the player’s technical skill and tactical efficiency. It calls for a
co-ordinated functioning of the body and its reflexes. Studies have pointed out the importance of physical
characteristics for different sports. However, few studies in the literature have investigated physical and
physiological characteristics of badminton (Faude et al, 2007; Chint et al, 1995; Cabello and
Gonzalez-Badillo, 2003) but the relationship between physical characteristics and level of performance is
neglected. Thus this study was undertaken to establish a relationship between selected variables of physical
characteristics and the level of performance of male badminton players.
2. Methods and Materials
2.1 Participants
For the purpose of this study 20 male badminton players who represented State Badminton Championship
were selected as the subjects. The age of the selected subjects were ranged from 20 to 27 years of age.
2.2 Procedure of Data Acquisition
Arm strength, leg strength, agility, spine flexibility and wrist flexibility were taken as the variables of
physical characteristics. Level of performance was recognized as the playing ability of the players. Rogers’s
formula was employed to estimate the arm strength of the selected subjects, for this height was measured in
inches, weight in kilograms and push-ups & pull-ups in numbers. Leg strength of the subjects was taken by
leg dynamometer to the nearest kilogram. To measure the agility of the subjects 4× yards shuttle run was
10
administered and time was recorded to the nearest 1/10 th of a second. Spine and wrist flexibility of the
subjects was taken by flexomeasure with yard stick and it was recorded to the nearest inches. For spine
flexibility modified sit and reach test was used and wrist elevation test was employed to measure the wrist
flexibility. For determining the level of performance of the players they were asked to participate in a series
of three matches, seven points each. The fixture of the matches was drawn on the basis of lottery system.
The level of badminton performers were categorized on the basis of players’ performance which was
evaluated and rated by a panel of three experts on the court during the matches on a 10 points likert type
rating scale having score from 1 to 10 points. Some more addition points were awarded according to the
results of the matches i.e. 5 points for winning and 2 points for losing the match.
2.3 Statistical Technique
The Person’s Product Moment Coefficient of correlation was computed to determine the relationship
between badminton performance and selected variables of physical characteristics and the level of
significance was set at 0.05 level of confidence.
Test-retest method was also employed to determine reliability of performance of the subjects. The
performance of the subjects in arm strength, leg strength, agility and flexibility were recorded on two
different days with a gap of one day in between.

3. Results and Discussion
Since results of any endeavour plays an important role to interpret and explain the current trend of the
concerned field. The results of the present investigation are presented in the preceding tables.
Table 1: Relationship between test and retest scores’ of physical characteristics
Variables r values
Arm Strength 0.94*
Leg Strength 0.92*
Agility 0.95*
Spine Flexibility 0.82*
Wrist Flexibility 0.88*
*Significant at 0.05 level of significance with 18 df Tab r = 0.44
Form the above cited table 1 its seem that the score of test-retest has highly significant as all calculated r
value are more than tabulated r value at 0.05 level of confidence with 18 degree of freedom.
Table 2: Relationship between variable of physical characteristics and level of performance of state level
male badminton players
Physical
Performance N df
Characteristics
Arm Strength 0.32
Leg Strength 0.30
Needed value of r for being
Agility 0.49* 20 18
significant at 0.05 = 0.44
Spine Flexibility -0.11
Wrist Flexibility 0.55*
Table 2 reveals that wrist flexibility and agility (variable of physical characteristics) significantly correlates
with badminton performance. The coefficient of correlation of wrist flexibility is 0.54 and agility is 0.49,
whereas the coefficient of correlation of other independent variables i.e. arm strength, leg strength and
spine flexibility were not found significant with performance at 0.05 level of confidence.
4. Conclusion
On the basis on results of this empirical investigation its seems reasonably fair to conclude that there is
significant relationship between the wrist flexibility and agility to badminton performance therefore these
variables are most trustworthy for the better performance in Badminton.
