1. The 28thof October is the day when Greeks
celebrate the “NO” that the Greek Prime Minister
Ioannis Metaxas said when he refused the
entrance of the Italian army into Greek.
HISTORY
The first hours on the 28th October 1940 the
Italian government sent an ultimatum at their
ambassador in Greek. And then he gave the
ultimatum to the Greek prime minister. After he
read it, he answered to the Italian government:
“This means war”. And then the Greek-Italian war
started. Since then, the 28th October is celebrated
as a national holiday for Greeks. Greeks showed
once again their value. The counterattack on the
14th of November had as result, the retreat of the
Italians. The Greeks captured areas in Albania.
2. Early December they released Delvino and
Argirokastro, two cities in Albania.
In the spring of 1941 in March, Mussolini started
the “Ethereal attack’’. The Italian army with
enhanced powers and good organization tried to
beat the Greeks, but at the end the Greek defense
forces Mussolini to admit his defeat on the 26th of
March 1941.
