This study examined the anatomical relationship between serotonergic and catecholaminergic neurons and dopamine-melatonin neurons in the hypothalamus of female turkeys. The researchers found that tracer injections into the premammillary nucleus labeled neurons in brainstem areas containing serotonin, dopamine beta-hydroxylase, and phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase fibers in close proximity to dopamine-melatonin neurons. Expression levels of tryptophan hydroxylase 2 and tyrosine hydroxylase mRNA, markers of serotonin and catecholamine activity, varied across reproductive states in these brain regions, suggesting an interaction between the neuronal systems that regulates avian reproduction.

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) launched the Safety and Integrity Alliance in 2008 to promote safety standards at racetracks. The Alliance visits tracks seeking accreditation and evaluates how they adhere to safety codes regarding injury reporting, safety equipment, medication policies, and other issues. Twenty-three major tracks have been accredited, accounting for 90% of graded stakes races in North America. The Alliance is a small team that inspects tracks to maintain their accreditation every two years. This article describes their visit to Turfway Park to conduct its accreditation inspection and evaluate the track's safety and integrity practices.

The Ferrari Daytona was officially named the 365 GTB/4 by Ferrari and produced from 1968 to 1973, with a maximum speed of 174 mph. In 1971, famous race car drivers Brock Yates and Dan Gurney drove a Daytona in the Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash cross-country race, winning in just 35 hours and 54 minutes with an average speed of 80.1 mph. This study investigated the expression of melanopsin (OPN4x) in the hypothalamus of turkeys and its role in seasonal reproduction. The researchers found:
1) OPN4x mRNA was expressed in discrete hypothalamic and brainstem areas involved in circadian rhythms, including the premammillary nucleus (PMM) which contains dopamine-melatonin neurons.
