This experiment measures the coefficients of static and kinetic friction between a wooden block and an inclined plane. The static coefficient of friction (μs) is determined using the angle of repose method and by measuring the maximum static frictional force. The kinetic coefficient of friction (μk) is determined by measuring the frictional force needed to pull the block at constant velocity and finding the slope of a graph of frictional force versus normal force. It is also determined using the constant velocity method, where μk is equal to the tangent of the angle at which the block slides down the plane at a constant speed.
