CBI lodges new case against
Lalu Yadav, raids 17 locations
Patna: Rashtriya Jana-

Prasad Yadav and his
family appear to be in
deep peril, yet again.
The Central Bureau
of Investigation (CBI)
has slapped fresh cor-
ruption charges against
him, only weeks after
being granted bail in
the fifth fodder scam
case. As per reports, his
other family members
have also been named
as the defendants in the
new case.
The new case would
land Yadav in hot water
again as the CBI found
his involvement in a re-
cruiting scam during
his stint as the railways
minister. The CBI al-
leges in the new case
that Yadav and his fam-
ily members got land

Reducing India to civic nation

New Delhi (PTI): Reduc-
ing India to a civic nation
bound by a Constitution
disregards its history, an-

Vice-Chancellor San-

said here on Friday.
Speaking at an inter-
national seminar at Del-
hi University, Pandit
noted that India is a
“civilisation state” and
celebrating history be-
yond religion is “very
important”.
“Reducing India to a
civic nation bound by a
Constitution disregards
its history, ancient herit-
age culture and civilisa-
tion. I would place India
as a civilisation State.
There are only two civili-
sation States that had a
tradition with moderni-
ty, a realm with the re-
gion, and change with
continuity. Those two
states are India and Chi-
na,” she said.
She was speaking at
the plenary session on
the second day of a
three-day seminar titled
— Revisiting the ideas
of India from ‘Swaraj’ to
‘New India’.
The Jawaharlal

bail plea in money laundering case
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Dismissed
cop Sachin Vaze’s bail
plea was rejected by a
special PMLA court
on Friday in the mon-
ey laundering case
registered and inves-
tigated by the En-
forcement Directo-
rate (ED).
The ED while oppos-
ing Vaze’s bail plea, in
the case allegedly in-
volving former state
Home Minister Anil
Deshmukh, stated that
he is the key link of the
whole conspiracy. The
prosecution claimed
that he is likely to flee,
and said, “The appli-
cant is an influential
person and if granted
bail, may influence
witnesses, owing to
his strong financial
power and knowledge
of the direction of the
investigation.”
According to the
ED’s response, Vaze
met with numerous or-
chestra bar owners on
Deshmukh’s orders and
requested them to pay
`3 lakh per month for
their seamless opera-
tion in late hours with-
out restrictions on per-
formance artists.
“From December
2020 to February 2021,
Sachin Vaze collected
approximately `4.70
crore from various or-
chestra bar owners in
furtherance of this con-
spiracy to collect mon-
ey from orchestra bar
owners,” the ED stated.
The prosecution also
cited Vaze’s alleged
involvement in the 2021
Antilia bomb scare
case, and the subse-
quent killing of busi-
nessmen Mansukh
Hiran.

came to light in December 2006
when skeletons were found in a
drain near a house in Nithari. In

Code’s Section 364 and Section 302. Koli was arrested
by the CBI, which filed multiple cases against him and
filed the charge sheets in all the cases.

Bengaluru in the morning on May 20. Within hours,
police not only checked the
airport premises and declared
the call a hoax, but also arrested
the caller. The police control
room (112) received a call from
a male, who identified himself
as Deepak and claimed to have
planted a time bomb to go off at 3.50 a.m. on Friday
May 20. The police and Central Industrial Security
Force (CISF) posted at KIA were alerted.
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Friday directed the CBI
to give a three-day prior notice to Congress MP Karti
Chidambaram if it required
to arrest him in connection
with an alleged visa scam
case. Special Judge M K
Nagpal passed the order while
dismissing his anticipatory
bail plea as withdrawn. The
plea was opposed by the CBI, which said it was not
maintainable at this stage. CBI also stated that the

BJP leader from

PMModi’sspeech
after the tricolour
was hoisted by
Shri Murli Mano-
har Joshi at Lal
Chowk in Kash-
mir in 1992. The party worker
recalls how Narendra Modi’s
simplicity and soft temperament
touched his life. He cannot forget
the day when Modiji bypassed
the official procedures and vis-
ited Shailesh Mehta at his home
after becoming the Chief Minis-
ter of Gujarat.
It was in 1974 that I came in
touch with Modiji for the first
time. To this day, I have been in
awe of his personality and he
has never failed to inspire me.
Modiji has been blessed with a
magnetic personality that at-
tracts people to him irrespective
of their age or economic status.
All those he comes in contact
with feel that Narenda bhai be-
longs to them and people begin
to converse with him almost at a
personal level, as if they are in-
teracting with their own broth-
er. For him work is worship and
helping others an ideal that he
never diverges from. These at-
tributes of his personality have
resulted in people alluding to
him as “Samarth Sathi”.

dra bhai, even without realising,
had started to create a new India.
That day theardour of hiswords,
his passionate patriotism, and
the fearless challenge that he
threw open to terrorists, took
Narendra bhai to every home in
India. He created a place for him-
self in the hearts of his fellow
men who were inspired and
floored by the intensity of his
love for his motherland.
At the time I was the Utkarsh
Mantri in Assam and had or-
ganised a welcome programme
for him. I was conducting the
proceedings on stage and as per
the flow of the event, I had to
introduce Narendra bhai, then
invite him for a speech and post
his talk, leave the floor open for
questions from the audience. In
his talk Modiji narrated the Lal
Chowk incident, how the event
unfolded and his thoughts about
it. Well, little needs to be said
about the rhetorical skills of our
Prime Minister. Narendra bhai
is one of the greatest orators of
modern India who speaks
straight from the heart trans-
porting his audience into a
trance like state in which they
simply fail to utter a word even
after he ceased to speak.
His speech in that programme
where he described the Lal
Chowkincidenthadasimilarim-
pact on the audience. They were
spellbound and after his speech
was over, when I asked the audi-
ence to put up questions, there
was pin drop silence. I simply
didn’t know what to do. Once
again I requested the audience to
begin with the question-answer
session but there was no re-
sponse. Now I was left with no
other option but to ask a question
myself.Iactedasif someonefrom
the audience had come up with a
question and put it across to Nar-
endra bhai. But razor sharp as he
is, he immediately knew what
hadhappenedandheansweredat
length, though with a chuckle.
From then on, he nicknamed me
“Prashnakar” and even today ad-
dresses me by that epithet.
By the time he had finished
answering the question, the au-
dience was alive again and then,
God knows, such a bunch of
questions presented themselves
that after a while we had to re-
quest people to calm down and
bring the programme to a con-
clusion leaving the questions for
some other day
.
In a nutshell, that programme
has been one of the most cher-
ished and memorable events of
my life.
Another incident that I would
like to share with our readers
today is when my family mem-
bers wanted to meet Narendra
bhai and congratulate him per-
sonally after he was elected CM
of Gujarat. I organised a Milan
programme at my residence
where my family had gathered
and as is obvious, everyone
wanted to have a picture clicked
with Modiji.
I would like to tell my readers
here that I witnessed with my
own eyes something that makes
leaders truly great. The family
helper, whose name is Mogji,
came to me and requested if he
too could have a photograph
clicked with the Chief Minister.
I told him he could but he would
have to wait. This was over-
heard by Narendra bhai and at
that point, he bypassed all pro-
tocols, flung his arm around
Mogji and with a pat on his
shoulder, said “Get ready for a
photo.” He then called out for
the photographer and got a pic-
ture clicked with Mogji and
well, all others could wait.
This incident, like so may oth-
ers we have heard and read
about our beloved PM, shows us
that in the eyes of a great leader,
all men are equal. Every human
being is important and deserves
to be treated with love, respect
and honour. For Narendra bhai,
there is no distinction between
the rich and the poor, the young
and the old and he truly lives by
the slogan he himself has coined
“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. It
is this trait of our PM that en-
dears him to every citizen of the
country, so much so that we all
feel as if Modiji is part of our
own family
. Such feelings of in-
timacy and love for a public per-
sonality are rare but when they
are present it is proof that the
man we admire and love, is not
an ordinary mortal. Modiji is a
great statesman and the world
adores him for his simplicity,
integrity and courage.

CARTELISATION IS GOING TO BE
A CHALLENGE: SITHARAMAN
New Delhi (PTI): Fi-
nance Minister Nirma-
la Sitharaman on Fri-
day said “cartelisation
is going to be a chal-
lenge” and stressed on
the need to look at sup-
ply disruptions in order
to ensure that there are
no monopolistic or du-
opolistic situations
causing either price
hikes or supply manip-
ulations.
Amidst rising infla-
tion which has also
raised concerns about
the economic recovery
from the coronavirus
pandemic, the minister
said there are a few
grievances that input
costs of materials have
gone up in spite of India
having quite a big ca-
pacity to meet the coun-
try’s own demands and
also for exports.
There is a global
shortage of commodi-
ties and raw materials
as well as disruptions
in the value chains and
supply chains due to the
pandemic and the war
situation in Eastern Eu-
rope, she noted.
Sitharaman said
there are disruptions of
various kinds.
“There are very
many stages at which
disruptions are coming
in. Are they genuinely
disruptions caused by
COVID or war, there is
a need to look into these
disruptions, look into
the causes for the short
supply and also assure
that there are no mo-
nopolistic or duopolis-
tic situations causing
either price hikes or
supply manipulations,”
the minister said.
Sitharaman said in
the last two years, the
CCI has stood up and
met the challenges with
a lot more positivity
.
“Challenges are get-
ting more complex,
more nuanced and
more technology-driv-
en. So, the CCI will have
to have such skill sets so
that you are never be-
hind the curve and you
are on top of the is-
sues,” she said.
According to her,
cartelisation is going to
be a challenge also due
to companies scaling up
and growing into areas
which are of great de-
mand. “There could be
a situation where
cartelisation is a possi-
ble threat... Cartelisa-
tion is the larger word I
am using cartelisa-
tion itself is a self-ex-
planatory word but I am
also bringing smaller
elements of other
things which eventual-
ly make commodities
expensive,” she said.
FM STRESSES ON THE NEED TO LOOK AT SUPPLY DISRUPTIONS
THE RECOVERY
There are very many stages at which disruptions are coming
in. Are they genuinely disruptions caused by COVID or war,
there is a need to look into these disruptions, look into the
causes for the short supply and also assure that there are no monopo-
listic or duopolistic situations causing either price hikes or supply
manipulations. —Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister

Wheatworth$177mnexportedinMarch
New Delhi (PTI): India
has exported wheat
worth $177 million in
March and $473 million
in April even after the
Russia-Ukraine conflict
started in late February
to help other countries
overcome food crisis,
sources said.
According to them,
India exported wheat
even at a time when
about eight nations, in-
cluding Ukraine, Bela-
rus, Turkey, Egypt, Ka-
zakhstan and Kuwait,
had imposed wheat ex-
port restrictions.
“Still, after the con-
flict began on February
24, 2022, India has ex-
ported wheat worth
$177 million and $473
million in March and
April, respectively, de-
spite facing challenges
of low wheat produc-
tion as a result of ex-
treme heat wave that
enveloped the northern
part of the country that
caused shrivelled
grains and resultant
drop in yield per acre,”
one of the sources said.
With the retail prices
of wheat and wheat
flour rising by 14-20%
in the last one year, the
government, on May 13,
banned wheat exports
to control rising domes-
tic prices.

tries to scare others by targeting someone. No-

Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha said. He did

Optimism is all about a positive approach that generates great results from hard
work. The most beautiful thing one can wear is confidence as it is all about the zeal
of doing better every day. One such magnetic personality is Ayushi Banasia from
Ajmer who looks for opportunities to perform better. City First spoke to Ayushi
Banasia about her modelling career and here are some excerpts of that chit-chat.

Throw some light
on essential skills
required for the
modelling world.
Modelling requires
passion as it is not en-
tirely about looks.
It is also a craft
that has to be
practised and de-
veloped with consist-
ent efforts. However,
visual appearance
matters when in
front of the cam-
era. A confi-
dent and de-
terminedper-
sonality is
re q u i re d
for this
h i g h l y
c o m p e t i -
tive field.
Any advice you
would give to your
future self?
Yes, I would surely
give myself one piece
of advice about being
consistent in this pro-
fession. I would ask
myself to go relent-
lessly after my aims
and ambitions. I be-
lieve that these goals
are the expressions of
my true personality
.
What inspired you
to become a model?
I always knew that I
was capable of be-
coming a successful
model. I have all the
traits that are needed
to become a super-
model. However, I am
very well aware of
the fact that it is
a very demanding
and competitive pro-
fession but life is
nothing without
challenges.
What was the
biggest mistake
you made when
you just started?
I made a big mistake
when I started. I was
not well trained and
went for an audition
which embarrassed
me. I could not even
walk properly on the
ramp at that time. So,
you should prepare
well for anything that
you pursue.
What has been the
most memorable or
rewarding moment
in your career?
Every time I walk the
ramp becomes a
memorable moment
for me. It gives me a
lot of confidence and
positivity. I feel the
best reward is when
you are confident
while doing
your job.

JULY 24 - AUGUST 23
Driving down with lover to a
happening place is indicated today.
A vacation you only dreamed about
is likely to become a reality soon.
Healthy eating will help prevent
digestive ailments. Money will be no
constraint in buying what you like.
There will be some criticism in the air,
try to deal with them patiently.
LIBRA
SEPT 24 - OCTOBER 22
Project left halfway by someone else
may come on your shoulders, but
your efforts will be acknowledged.
Some clarification will need to be
sought on a financial issue, before
you take the next step. A Some of
you are all set to enjoy a splendid
vacation. Be cautious on the money
front this week.
ARIES
MAR 21 - APR 20
Currently, you are in the midst of
some profound questioning about
your emotional attitudes. You’ll
probably find yourself totally free of
inhibitions, much to your delight. It’s
an opportunity to meet new people
and perhaps become a bit more
open-minded. You can expect lively
events and much pleasure from love.

You are likely to find the day most
auspicious. Your knowledge about your
line of work will be roundly appreciated
and get you the thumbs up from
higher ups. Friends and family may
get together to give you a surprise and
make your day. Be careful about being
too easily convinced by any “truth” that
comes your way.
GEMINI
MAY 21 - JUNE 21

have very refreshing day. Visiting a
mall or watching a movie with family
is likely to be the highlight of the day
for some. You may enjoy travelling to
a tourist destination recommended
by your friends. Reignite the flicker-
ing romance in your life by spending
more time together.

day . A setback you have recently
experienced can make you come out
stronger. Tax advisor will be a big
help in saving taxes, so don’t hesitate
to contact one. It is difficult for the
relationship of friends turned lovers
to fall apart, so relax. Try to tackle
difficult situations with patience.

indicated for some. Money put
together on previous occasions is

awaken partner’s interest in you once
again. Try being patient as you may
face some ups and downs

You will derive great benefit from
an exercise routine that you keenly

postpone it for some other day. Health
would be satisfactory.

consuming task will be forthcoming

lenge. Socially, your presence will be
much looked forward. You should
make good use of today’s clear com-
munication channels.
CANCER
JUNE 22 - JULY 23
Something you have implemented at
work is likely to profit the company
and get you noticed. You are likely to
celebrate the achievement of a family
youngster in a grand way. Shifting
into your very own house may soon
become a reality. If you can’t see how
to solve the problem alone, why not
discuss it with your friends?
PISCES
FEB20 - MARCH 20
Previous investments are likely to
give you good returns. Some of you
may decide to follow in the footsteps
of celebrities and visit the very same
exotic destination that they had
been to. No amount of excuses will
dispel lover’s suspicions about your
tendency to stray the path. Try to
maintain a positive attitude.
SCORPIO
OCT 23 - NOVEMBER 22
Money coming from various streams
will keep you in an elated state of
mind. A new fitness regime that you
have adopted promises to keep you
in the pink of health. Getting an old
furniture upholstered may be at the
top of the mind of some homemak-
ers. Your search for perfect partner
may soon be over.

Bollywood’s blue-eyed beauty

Deepika once again

Hina Khan has sported a

he film is a horror-com-
edy and is a franchise
of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa
released in 2007. The
story of the film is about an
accidental, yet destined meet
up between two strangers Ru-
haan (Kartik Aaryan) and
Reet ( Kiara Advani) who
end up visiting Reet’s
home town in Rajasthan
which is haunted by the spir-
it of Manjulika (Tabu). Fate
leads them to open up an
old secret due to which all
hell breaks loose lead-
ing to one lie, leading to
a whole pile of lies
which sends Ruhaan
and Reet on a scary
rollercoaster ride.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
is a fresh story and it
holds its ground. An-
ees Bazmee has not
just resorted to jump-
ing scares to make it fit
the horror genre but
there are actual mo-
ments of ‘ghostly
encounters’ that
take you by sur-
prise. The director
has mastered the art
of comedy so well that
he can make you crack
up in a jiffy
.
Kartik does jus-
tice to his character and it
seems that the character was
written keeping in mind only
and only Kartik Aaryan. He
gets every chance to show his
acting, dancing skills and com-
ic timing in the film. Kiara is
sweet and simple as Reet and
looks gorgeous in each frame.
Not that it’s some drastically
different role that she hasn’t
done in the past. Tabu, stand
out strong in the entire film
playing the character of the
spirit of Manjulika and the
caring bhabi of the family An-
julika. Tabu leaves a mark in
every scene she appears.
Among other supporting
casts, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay
Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar
andRajeshSharmabringsome
hilarious moments. Milind Gu-
nanji and Amar Upadhyay have
essential parts but in very lim-
ited screen time.
Overall the film is
good and the best
part is it does not

  • 4. BJP leader from Gujarat, Shailesh Mehta, recollects PMModi’sspeech after the tricolour was hoisted by Shri Murli Mano- har Joshi at Lal Chowk in Kash- mir in 1992. The party worker recalls how Narendra Modi’s simplicity and soft temperament touched his life. He cannot forget the day when Modiji bypassed the official procedures and vis- ited Shailesh Mehta at his home after becoming the Chief Minis- ter of Gujarat. It was in 1974 that I came in touch with Modiji for the first time. To this day, I have been in awe of his personality and he has never failed to inspire me. Modiji has been blessed with a magnetic personality that at- tracts people to him irrespective of their age or economic status. All those he comes in contact with feel that Narenda bhai be- longs to them and people begin to converse with him almost at a personal level, as if they are in- teracting with their own broth- er. For him work is worship and helping others an ideal that he never diverges from. These at- tributes of his personality have resulted in people alluding to him as “Samarth Sathi”. Hisspeechafterthehoistingof tricolour at Lal Chowk in Kash- mirin1992wasaturningpointin theIndianpoliticalarena.Naren- dra bhai, even without realising, had started to create a new India. That day theardour of hiswords, his passionate patriotism, and the fearless challenge that he threw open to terrorists, took Narendra bhai to every home in India. He created a place for him- self in the hearts of his fellow men who were inspired and floored by the intensity of his love for his motherland. At the time I was the Utkarsh Mantri in Assam and had or- ganised a welcome programme for him. I was conducting the proceedings on stage and as per the flow of the event, I had to introduce Narendra bhai, then invite him for a speech and post his talk, leave the floor open for questions from the audience. In his talk Modiji narrated the Lal Chowk incident, how the event unfolded and his thoughts about it. Well, little needs to be said about the rhetorical skills of our Prime Minister. Narendra bhai is one of the greatest orators of modern India who speaks straight from the heart trans- porting his audience into a trance like state in which they simply fail to utter a word even after he ceased to speak. His speech in that programme where he described the Lal Chowkincidenthadasimilarim- pact on the audience. They were spellbound and after his speech was over, when I asked the audi- ence to put up questions, there was pin drop silence. I simply didn’t know what to do. Once again I requested the audience to begin with the question-answer session but there was no re- sponse. Now I was left with no other option but to ask a question myself.Iactedasif someonefrom the audience had come up with a question and put it across to Nar- endra bhai. But razor sharp as he is, he immediately knew what hadhappenedandheansweredat length, though with a chuckle. From then on, he nicknamed me “Prashnakar” and even today ad- dresses me by that epithet. By the time he had finished answering the question, the au- dience was alive again and then, God knows, such a bunch of questions presented themselves that after a while we had to re- quest people to calm down and bring the programme to a con- clusion leaving the questions for some other day . In a nutshell, that programme has been one of the most cher- ished and memorable events of my life. Another incident that I would like to share with our readers today is when my family mem- bers wanted to meet Narendra bhai and congratulate him per- sonally after he was elected CM of Gujarat. I organised a Milan programme at my residence where my family had gathered and as is obvious, everyone wanted to have a picture clicked with Modiji. I would like to tell my readers here that I witnessed with my own eyes something that makes leaders truly great. The family helper, whose name is Mogji, came to me and requested if he too could have a photograph clicked with the Chief Minister. I told him he could but he would have to wait. This was over- heard by Narendra bhai and at that point, he bypassed all pro- tocols, flung his arm around Mogji and with a pat on his shoulder, said “Get ready for a photo.” He then called out for the photographer and got a pic- ture clicked with Mogji and well, all others could wait. This incident, like so may oth- ers we have heard and read about our beloved PM, shows us that in the eyes of a great leader, all men are equal. Every human being is important and deserves to be treated with love, respect and honour. For Narendra bhai, there is no distinction between the rich and the poor, the young and the old and he truly lives by the slogan he himself has coined “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. It is this trait of our PM that en- dears him to every citizen of the country, so much so that we all feel as if Modiji is part of our own family . Such feelings of in- timacy and love for a public per- sonality are rare but when they are present it is proof that the man we admire and love, is not an ordinary mortal. Modiji is a great statesman and the world adores him for his simplicity, integrity and courage. Narendra bhai, even without realising, had started to create a new India. That day the ardour of his words, his passionate patriotism, and the fearless challenge that he threw open to terrorists, took Narendra bhai to every home in India. He created a place for himself in the hearts of his fellow men who were inspired and floored by the intensity of his love for his motherland YOU READ PART-3 ON MAY 17, 2022 HIS SIMPLICITY DEFINES PM’s GREATNESS... A nother incident that I would like to share with our readers is when my family members wanted to meet Narendra bhai and congratulate him personally after he was elected CM of Gujarat. This was overheard by Narendrabhai and at that point, he bypassed all protocols, flung his arm around Mogji and with a pat on his shoulder, said “Get ready for a photo.” He then called out for the photographer and got a picture clicked with Mogji and well, all others could wait. CARTELISATION IS GOING TO BE A CHALLENGE: SITHARAMAN New Delhi (PTI): Fi- nance Minister Nirma- la Sitharaman on Fri- day said “cartelisation is going to be a chal- lenge” and stressed on the need to look at sup- ply disruptions in order to ensure that there are no monopolistic or du- opolistic situations causing either price hikes or supply manip- ulations. Amidst rising infla- tion which has also raised concerns about the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, the minister said there are a few grievances that input costs of materials have gone up in spite of India having quite a big ca- pacity to meet the coun- try’s own demands and also for exports. There is a global shortage of commodi- ties and raw materials as well as disruptions in the value chains and supply chains due to the pandemic and the war situation in Eastern Eu- rope, she noted. Sitharaman said there are disruptions of various kinds. “There are very many stages at which disruptions are coming in. Are they genuinely disruptions caused by COVID or war, there is a need to look into these disruptions, look into the causes for the short supply and also assure that there are no mo- nopolistic or duopolis- tic situations causing either price hikes or supply manipulations,” the minister said. Sitharaman said in the last two years, the CCI has stood up and met the challenges with a lot more positivity . “Challenges are get- ting more complex, more nuanced and more technology-driv- en. So, the CCI will have to have such skill sets so that you are never be- hind the curve and you are on top of the is- sues,” she said. According to her, cartelisation is going to be a challenge also due to companies scaling up and growing into areas which are of great de- mand. “There could be a situation where cartelisation is a possi- ble threat... Cartelisa- tion is the larger word I am using cartelisa- tion itself is a self-ex- planatory word but I am also bringing smaller elements of other things which eventual- ly make commodities expensive,” she said. However, I am very well aware of the fact that it is a very demanding and competitive pro- fession but life is nothing without challenges. What was the biggest mistake you made when you just started? I made a big mistake when I started. I was not well trained and went for an audition which embarrassed me. I could not even walk properly on the ramp at that time. So, you should prepare well for anything that you pursue. What has been the most memorable or rewarding moment in your career? Every time I walk the ramp becomes a memorable moment for me. The Marble Collector is a thought-provoking novel about how the most ordi- narydecisionswemakecan havethemostextraordinary consequences on how we liveourlives.Sometimesit’s only by shining a light on someone else that you can truly under- stand yourself. It is an Illuminat- ing and touching father- daughter story about mem- ory , childhood and secrets. “When it comes to mem- ory there are three catego- ries – things I want to for- get, things I can’t forget and things I’d forgotten I forgot until I remember them.” Memory is what makes us individuals. It shapes our personality. It has the power to change our emotional state in the blink of an eye. Many of us are haunted by memories that we’d give everything to erase and all of us have memories we turn to when we need to go back to those moments when we were truly happy . Imagine the loss when we lose this capability!!! Fergus Boggs suffered a stroke and has dementia. His memory “ebbs and flows like the waves of the Irish sea”. He is in an Old- Age Care Home. Sabrina, his daughter, visits him regularly and genuinely cares for him. As a mother of three sons, she is more than busy. Her job in a Care-Centre, as a swim- ming pool lifeguard, is bor- ing and her marriage isn’t as happy anymore as it used to be. She cannot un- derstand herself or her problems and feels lost. This novel spans both- one day and a whole life- time. It’s told from alternat- ing perspectives- both in the first person. Fergus’s chapters are always titled “Playing with Marbles” then the name of either a sort of marble or the game that is mentioned in the chapter. Sabrina’s are titled “Pool Rules” which relates to her love of water, swim- ming and her job as a life- guard. Fergus’s story starts with him being a sad and scared five-year-old boy , re- ceiving his first marbles. “Allies. I like that. It makes me feel like a soldier.” He has a complex childhood background- one of seven rowdy boys- with an absent mother and a harsh stepfa- ther. Fate leads them to open up an old secret due to which all hell breaks loose lead- ing to one lie, leading to a whole pile of lies which sends Ruhaan and Reet on a scary rollercoaster ride. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a fresh story and it holds its ground. An- ees Bazmee has not just resorted to jump- ing scares to make it fit the horror genre but there are actual mo- ments of ‘ghostly encounters’ that take you by sur- prise. The director has mastered the art of comedy so well that he can make you crack up in a jiffy . Kartik does jus- tice to his character and it seems that the character was written keeping in mind only and only Kartik Aaryan. He gets every chance to show his acting, dancing skills and com- ic timing in the film. Kiara is sweet and simple as Reet and looks gorgeous in each frame. Not that it’s some drastically different role that she hasn’t done in the past. Tabu, stand out strong in the entire film playing the character of the spirit of Manjulika and the caring bhabi of the family An- julika. Tabu leaves a mark in every scene she appears. Among other supporting casts, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar andRajeshSharmabringsome hilarious moments. Milind Gu- nanji and Amar Upadhyay have essential parts but in very lim- ited screen time. Overall the film is good and the best part is it does not let you miss the Bhool Bhulaiya of 2007.
