Mexico has significant potential for renewable energy from solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal sources. Total installed renewable capacity was 16,921 MW in 2014. The National Development Bank (Nafin) provides financing for large-scale renewable projects through loans and partnerships with other financial institutions. Nafin's portfolio includes over $6 billion invested in renewable projects representing 2.8 GW of installed capacity. In 2015, Nafin issued Mexico's first green bond to further fund eligible renewable energy and climate projects.
