1. MICRONUTRIENTS & GROWTH PROMOTERS -> OVERVIEW
Micro-nutrients or Multi-micronutrients
It is important that crops and plants get the right nutrients so that good quality and
expected yield is achieved. Unfortunately, given the current climatic and soil conditions,
they do not receive the right amount and proportion of these nutrients. There are three
kinds of nutrients:
Primary – Urea (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K)
Secondary – Calcium(Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sulphur (S)
Tertiary – Multi-micronutrients
Though the primary and secondary nutrients are available to the plants through soil and
fertilizers, they do not provide nutrition to the crops and hence cannot have the desired
impact on their own. They need synergy to cause the absorption of these nutrients. These
drivers are called micronutrients that are required in very small quantities.
In essence, without Micronutrients, all the nutrients are not available to the crops.
Micronutrients are inorganic compounds, 100% safe to use and do not affect the crops
negatively. In fact, they only enhance the uptake of nutrients and the quality of the crops.
Plant Growth Promoters
Apart from multi-nutrients it is important that the plants get the right amounts of certain
organic compounds and biological agents or derivatives that assist in their development and
growth. These are called Plant Growth Promoters that help maintain the overall health of
the plants. These include:
Plant proteins like the maize, groundnuts, etc.
Compounds like amino acids mainly derived from biological wastes
These improve mineral and vitamin absorption by plants and assist in natural production of
hormones that promote growth and enhanced yield quality.
