ABSTRACT
The fundamental role that agriculture plays in development has long been
recognized. In the seminal work on the subject, agriculture was seen as a
source of contributions that helped induce industrial growth and a structural
transformation of the economy. However, globalization, integrated value chains,
rapid technological and institutional innovations, and environmental
constraints have rapidly changed the context for agriculture’s role. The use of
pesticides leads to high productivity in Indian agriculture and sustainability of
agriculture is increased.
The dependence of farmers on pesticides to control diseases and pests is
common to the developed and the developing world and is an important part of
farming. Pesticides are highly effective substances used in control of pests and
vectors of human diseases. Their application in agriculture enabled increased
crops yields and manufacturing of high quality products in order to satisfy the
increasing food demands over the world. Food production quality has shown
increasing in recent decades and this increase in productivity leads to the need
for greater control of unwanted species of plants or animals that cause damage
or interfere with the production, storage, transport or marketing. Considering
this, and from the perspective of food security and on the increasing number of
pesticides is a pressing need to establish methodologies able to investigate the
presence of pesticide.
The study reviewed about the farmers purchase behaviour towards
pesticides with different factors. A farmer (also called an agriculture) is a person
engaged in agriculture, raising living organisms for food or raw materials. A
farmer might own the farmed land or might work as a labourer on land owned
by others, but in advanced economies, a farmer is usually a farm owner, while
employees of the farm are known as farm workers or farmhands. The research
concluded about farmer purchase decision were factors are socio-economic
factors, purchase decision influenced of pest attack, promotional activities that
prejudiced purchase behaviour and constrains faced by farmers about
pesticides.
Key words: Indian agriculture, Pesticide, Farmers purchase behaviour,
