10. Winter Camp
• Calling all units….are you tough enough to camp in the winter? The 2nd
Annual Camp Durant Winter Blast is a great opportunity to work on merit
badges and have fun. A total of 28 merit badge classes will be offered;
merit badge classes are taught by adults.
– Date: 18-21 January 2018
– Register your unit at https://occoneechee.tentaroo.com/ and select Winter Camp.
– Registration opens October 2, 2018 (hold participant slots)
– Merit Badge Selection: November 1, 2018 thru December 28, 2018.
– Cost: $90/Scout; $50/Adult
• 35 openings still available for Scouts. Additional details will be emailed to
unit leaders after registration.
• IOLS will also be offered. Class is limited to 25 adults. The cost is $50
and includes meals and a cabin assignment.

12. Amateur Radio Technician
Licensing Class
• Dates: 3-Saturdays from 8am till 3pm
– January 19, 26 and February 2, 2019

license test)

If you attend all three classes, you will complete the requirements for Radio Merit Badge.
All attendees will have the opportunity to take the FCC exam on February 2, 2019 after
the class. The cost for the test is $15, and it is proctored by ARRL Volunteer Examiners.
Passing this test will give you a Call-Sign and the privileges of an Amateur Radio
Technician.
PARENTS! You can participate in the class as well, and take the exam; if you pass the
exam, you and your child will have a new, exciting, and fun hobby your can learn about
together.

• Who: All Scouting groups are encouraged to participate in this service project
initiative.
• What: This is a time for all Scouting groups to conduct meaningful, visible
service projects of their choice in their communities. You are encouraged to
discuss and choose your projects with the help of your Scouts, committee, and
chartered organization.
• Where: Service projects can be done for your chartered organization or for the
cause of your choice. Projects done in collaboration with other organizations are
highly recommended.
• When: Projects may be conducted at any time.
• Why: Scouting was founded on the premise of doing a Good Turn daily.
Community service is very important in the character-building process and, as
Scouts, we have made the commitment to give back to our communities.
