1. New Youth Protection Training “YPT-2”
By October 1, 2018, all new
and currently registered
leaders will be required to
complete the updated YPT
training. The enhanced and
updated content will allow
leaders and councils to comply
with all current legal
requirements. While this may
be inconvenient for some, it
reflects the BSA’s commitment
to the safety of all youth.

4. Training Awards for Adult Leaders
• The training awards and keys are designed to
recognize unit Scouters for tenure, training, and
performance in their leadership roles.
• We are now able to process most training awards at
the district level:

• Highlander District is now able to offer free web
space to Highlander units. (that’s right, free – it won’t
cost you anything but time)
• You will get your own sub-domain (e.g.

• Units should designate a Unit Webmaster who has
some basic computer knowledge build and maintain
their site.

14. 2018 Friends of Scouting
It costs the Occoneechee Council
$25 per month or $300 per year for
each Scout to bring a great
Scouting experience to our youth.
This year, Highlander District has
been asked to support 167
Scouts.

together to reach our goal!
15. Service Hour Reporting
• Who: All Scouting groups are encouraged to participate in this service project
initiative.
• What: This is a time for all Scouting groups to conduct meaningful, visible
service projects of their choice in their communities. You are encouraged to
discuss and choose your projects with the help of your Scouts, committee, and
chartered organization.
• Where: Service projects can be done for your chartered organization or for the
cause of your choice. Projects done in collaboration with other organizations are
highly recommended.
• When: Projects may be conducted at any time.
• Why: Scouting was founded on the premise of doing a Good Turn daily.
Community service is very important in the character-building process and, as
Scouts, we have made the commitment to give back to our communities.

• What are you doing next

• The 2019 World Scout Jamboree
is being held in West Virginia in
July of 2019.
• There is still space available for
youth age 14-18.
• Staff applications are still being
accepted.

19. Red Cross offers Service Hours
Troops and Crews – the Red Cross needs your help!
• The Red Cross installs smoke alarms in poorer
neighborhoods – they are looking for volunteers to
train and do the installs (Service Hours!)
• The Red Cross is willing to offer some classes in
“Hands only” CPR to Troops and Crews at no charge
Leaders – get in touch with The Red Cross if you are
interested in your Troop or Crew helping with installs
of smoke detectors!
