EXIT 36S PLANNING STUDY
Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce
 Cooperative effort between NRPC and NMCOG
 Metropolitan Planning Organizations
 Facilitate collaboration of governmental bodies, interested
stakeholders and residents
 Identify and study transportation needs, develop solutions, and
allocate scarce transportation funding resources
 Look beyond municipal boundaries: regional problems demand
a regional solution
-Exit 36S is a regional problem that spans political borders
and requires interstate cooperation
 NRPC and NMCOG are well positioned to help solve regional
transportation problems, even across state boundaries
NASHUA REGIONAL
PLANNING COMMISSION
Kerrie Diers, Executive Director
Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce 4
Transportation Community
System Preservation Grant
 Improve the operation of the major roads in the study area
 Address all modes of transportation
 Provide efficient access to services and job centers
 Opportunities for sustainable growth and economic development
 Opportunities for innovative financing and public/private
partnerships
 Opportunity to mitigate traffic congestion and greenhouse gas
emissions
Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce 5
Historical Perspective
• History of interstate cooperation
• Exit ramp alignment originally planned to remain entirely in
New Hampshire
• Agreement between City of Nashua and Massachusetts
Governor Dukakis reached in early 1988 allowing exit ramp to
span border.
• Agreement required less land, saving NH $2 million.
