Poland has seen growing card usage rates in recent years. However, many Poles still encounter obstacles to using cards, especially for small purchases. A lack of card terminals in certain stores and self-service machines prevents card payments. Increased terminal availability and promotions could encourage more card usage. Poles view cards as safer and more convenient than cash, but control over account balances and transaction limits still concern some.

The amazing 7-year journey (a new way to tell your personal portfolio)James Nguyen
Every year, I always ask myself: "What is a key thing I learn through the year?" Indeed, I learn every year. Through 7 years of working from media to agency companies, I learn a lot of new things. This is the way I tell my story. If any fresh graduate want to enrol in a big company, I believe my example would be very useful.

Our aims: Welcome to the 1st edition of ‘What Works?’ journal by Quintin Kynaston.
What?
This journal is one of the first steps in our (CPD) Continued Professional Development journey to strengthen the
culture of action research for all of our staff. One of the many ways we as are sharing our findings with each
other at Quintin Kynaston, is through a publication of journals from a range of teaching and support staff
conducting long-term action research in and out of school.
CPD is also about sharing best practice; to consider ‘what works?’ and encourage staff to share collaboratively so that it has significant impact on professional practice, as well as the lives of our students here at QK.
‘What Works?’ is about making research available to our own staff, as well as with our local networks.
Why?
Teachers and support staff who engage in action research inevitably find it to be an empowering experience.
Using action research, what we actually mean is extrapolating any of the ways staff reflect on their practice
and improve it by self, peer and student evaluation. This will in many instances, require a disciplined process
of inquiry conducted by and for those taking the action. This will include bringing in and trying new ideas
identified from critical reading; selecting a focus, clarifying theories and analysing the results so that the researcher can take informed actions from what the quantitative and qualitative data reports.
How
As a group of staff that engage with action research, ?complete further degrees, or are in the process of
professional learning through inquiry, we are committed to using in-school research to improve our professional practice to become effective teachers.
‘What Works?’ is about communicating key findings and recommendations of research from our own practitioners, so that all staff recognise its relevance and importance for implementing a “research-proven” strategy to use with students. In our first edition, you will find a good range of questions, topics and action researchers who gain valid and reliable data as they develop efficacy.

Fabular Frames and the Four Ratio ProblemMajid Iqbal
Digital, interactive art showing the struggle of a society in providing for its present population while also saving planetary resources for future generations. Spread across several frames, the art is actually the rendering of real and speculative data. The stereographic projections change shape in response to prompts and provocations. Visitors interact with the model through speculative statements about how to increase savings across communities, regions, ecosystems and environments. Their fabulations combined with random noise, i.e. factors beyond control, have a dramatic effect on the societal transition. Things get better. Things get worse. The aim is to give visitors a new grasp and feel of the ongoing struggles in democracies around the world.
Stunning art in the small multiples format brings out the spatiotemporal nature of societal transitions, against backdrop issues such as energy, housing, waste, farmland and forest. In each frame we see hopeful and frightful interplays between spending and saving. Problems emerge when one of the two parts of the existential anaglyph rapidly shrinks like Arctic ice, as factors cross thresholds. Ecological wealth and intergenerational equity areFour at stake. Not enough spending could mean economic stress, social unrest and political conflict. Not enough saving and there will be climate breakdown and ‘bankruptcy’. So where does speculative design start and the gambling and betting end? Behind each fabular frame is a four ratio problem. Each ratio reflects the level of sacrifice and self-restraint a society is willing to accept, against promises of prosperity and freedom. Some values seem to stabilise a frame while others cause collapse. Get the ratios right and we can have it all. Get them wrong and things get more desperate.

A toxic combination of 15 years of low growth, and four decades of high inequality, has left Britain poorer and falling behind its peers. Productivity growth is weak and public investment is low, while wages today are no higher than they were before the financial crisis. Britain needs a new economic strategy to lift itself out of stagnation.
Scotland is in many ways a microcosm of this challenge. It has become a hub for creative industries, is home to several world-class universities and a thriving community of businesses – strengths that need to be harness and leveraged. But it also has high levels of deprivation, with homelessness reaching a record high and nearly half a million people living in very deep poverty last year. Scotland won’t be truly thriving unless it finds ways to ensure that all its inhabitants benefit from growth and investment. This is the central challenge facing policy makers both in Holyrood and Westminster.
What should a new national economic strategy for Scotland include? What would the pursuit of stronger economic growth mean for local, national and UK-wide policy makers? How will economic change affect the jobs we do, the places we live and the businesses we work for? And what are the prospects for cities like Glasgow, and nations like Scotland, in rising to these challenges?

Laura Adkins-Hackett, Economist, LMIC, and Sukriti Trehan, Data Scientist, LMIC, presented their research exploring trends in the skills listed in OJPs to develop a deeper understanding of in-demand skills. This research project uses pointwise mutual information and other methods to extract more information about common skills from the relationships between skills, occupations and regions.

Apple:
Apple already has 435 million active iTunes accounts worldwide, each one linked to a credit card. It likes to remind us of this relatively frequently.
The company has been expected to extend its offering to include mobile payment solutions for what appears to be an age.
According to Schiller, the iPhone 5′s Passbook app, which can be used to ”store loyalty cards and gift cards as well as things like boarding passes and baseball tickets,” is more than sufficient. What’s more, Passbook is more widely accepted than NFC. And this looks the main reason why Apple hasn’t jumped on board the NFC bandwagon — it’s not available in all territories and it would not make sense to include a feature that not everyone can use.
NFC Dongle, the iCase with a built-in MicroSD Card: But do banks want to issue physical device to their customers?
Apple has applied for a patent on a combined virtual currency and digital wallet technology that would allow you to store money in the cloud, make payments with your iPhone, and — just maybe — communicate with point-of-sale terminals via NFC.
Not to mention making money by viewing ads.
The patent application, published today by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Organization, details how iPhone users could walk into a store, pay for goods with their phone, and walk out with their merchandise. All of this is possible today, of course, but Apple’s patent application mentions — although does not require — NFC, something that Apple has long resisted adding to the iPhone. NFC facilitates digital wallets and cashless purchasing by wirelessly transmitting payment credentials and pricing information.
Interestingly or oddly, as it strikes you, the patent application includes considerable discussion of “free” services or products that users of the system could access. For example, watching ads could result in getting “tokens” that are redeemable for offsetting your mobile carrier costs, or even providing them completely for free. Or, like a high-tech virtual coupon, sponsors could assign tokens for any other specific purpose or use they wish, and users could only redeem them for that particular service or product.

Using Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE), iBeacon opens up a new whole dimension by creating a beacon around regions so your app can be alerted when users enter them. Beacons are a small wireless sensors placed inside any physical space that transmit data to your iPhone using Bluetooth Low Energy (also known as Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth Smart).
For example, imagine you walk into a mall with an iPhone 5s (comes with iOS 7 and iBeacon). You are approaching a Macy’s store, which means your iPhone is entering into Macy’s iBeacon region. Essentially iBeacon can transmit customized coupons or even walking directions to the aisle where a particular item is located. It can prompt a customer with special promotions or a personalized messages and recommendations based on their current location or past history with the company. Smartphones that are in an iBeacon zone will benefit from personalized microlocation-based notification and actions.
